Hello Vieja - I don't have a solution but I need help too! I have 2 feeders up. For a while the wasps and bees took over only one, leaving the other free for the hummingbirds. But now both are literally covered with wasps. I don't have a pond, but do have 2 birdbaths nearby, also now being used by the wasps. We are in a drought conditon in this area of North Carolina - don't know if that's relavent. My hummers also both perch and hover as they feed, so I guess this is just something they do. Anyway, I got so angry that I turned the hose on one of the feeders, blasting the wasps and sending them away briefly until they figured out what was going on and came after me. They actually gathered at the back window as I cowered inside! I hope someone will provide us with some helpful suggestions.

I've found that the carpenter bees are a bother early in the season and then I get the wasps later. But those carpenter bees really are territorial and I have witnessed many a battle and chase between hummer and carpenter bee. The one thing about that bee though is that they are about the only things around when my blueberries are blooming and are good pollinators, so I'm usually happy to see them in April when the bumble bees don't bother coming up to my spot. It sortof cracks me up when they find a spot to guard their territory and will sit there, chase something that comes nearby, and then return to the same spot: But they did occassionally try out the feeder, although most times they simply perched on the rail.

birds often take several weeks to find and use a new feeder. a lot of different birds seem to be attracked by bright colors and fluttering objects. Try hanging a few ribbons or ballons or even a couple wind chimes out. If there are any chickadees around your area they will probably be the first to show up. they are very curuous and one of the most friendly of birds. When i go out to fill the feeders or cleanup i whistle and chirp and they come flying in to see what is happening. another thing that attracks birds is water.anything from a bowl or pan changed daily if it freezes up or anymore the heated bird baths are a lot cheaper and can be placed on a railing or even hung from a rafter or mounted on a pole. and they are pretty energy efficient i hang my feeders close to a tree or shurbs it seems the birds fly into the tree or bushes first then to the feeders or water. and mine seem to do best 5 or 6 foot from the ground. my water bath came with a clamp to mount from railing or a 3 foot pole to sit in on in the yard. it sits outside the kitchen window close to the feeders.

I have two feeders one with BOSS, the other has nyger seed. I had a flocks of chikadees and finches. They suddenly left, occasionally I will see a few of each come to the feeders, they peck a little then leave. My trees are full of birds. Should I empty the feeders, and add new seeds? I don't know exactly how I should clean the feeders, the seeds aren't old. We did have a few slight showers last week, is it possible they may be tainted? I have no idea. I would also love to attract the tiny little birds I see in the trees. I don't know what type of feeder or seed. They certainly are not hummers, I can't see them that close, they appear to be dark in color. Also I have some cardinals that cannot feed in my cage feeder, but I also have a huge grackle problem. How should I feed my cards? I live in South Texas. Thank You!
