They're In The Neighborhood

Since the last brood fledged on 7/3, I've not laid eyes on a blue anywhere close to my house. It will always remain a mystery why they just totally disappear. I could understand two or three weeks, but 2 months???!!!

Several days ago, while out on the patio, I heard that familiar sweet sound, grabbed the binocs and saw 5 or 6 perched in the top of a tree several houses down from mine. Luckily, I've seen them each day in this same tree. They fly off during the day and return in late afternoon. Whether they're my family or not, I was absolutely thrilled to have them in the neighborhood...hope this is a good sign for 2009!!! The nestboxes will again be ready and waiting!

I have not seen hide nor hair of mine since I let "Little Boy Blue" go. I heard them up in the trees in the woods for a few days after but then they left. This Mom was not to social or accepting of me...then I held her baby captive for a couple days. I guess I wouldn't have come back either!
I am hoping to at least HEAR them before they ALL leave for the winter (and go to Karens house) LOL!

My name is Jan. We still have walking sticks, but have managed to keep them limited. Takes a lot of plucking. The best remedy I found is watering the plants and watching for them moving out of the wet zone. They don't like water. Then I grab them and either kill them, which I hate doing, or put them in the yard waste bin. The problem with not killing them is the risk that they just get put somewhere else via the yard waste recycling. Mostly I suck up my buddhist impulses and kill them. But its hard. Write to me and we can talk directly. The brown and green are the same, just adjusted to the different color plant part they are on usually. So sorry you have a major infestation. Not a good sign for PG. Jan

Intersting John. I see on the site instrustions to make any cut for curves/angles and such my questions are in this area as well as the self seal they are talking about with the pre drill. 30 years is way above your adverage warenty but as I looked the fine print was a bit slight there is of course the conection to the foundaiton,rusting that dosent make the project fall down just sag a little but still in their idea of structrual,how much does the install go against a warenty at all that is more detailed instrustions would be required for a steel strusture if your basic Carpenter tried one on, things like that. Intersting though the JonMon is always considering. If you please how long has your deck been up,exposure to the weather,did you make any cuts in the steel or was it a kit. J.

my listing agent says they're too busy to attend showings

I think it's a regional thing. In Alabama, it's very unusual for the listing agent to be present. The Buyer's agent handles the whole showing. The exception could possibly be the upper bracket homes where the showing isn't even allowed unless there is some sort of a prequalification for the potential buyer. They want to keep the looki-lous out. As Graywings said, you can always list with another agent who says he/she will always be present at a showing. But then you're dealing with one other person when scheduling a showing. Many times showings are on short notice. If your listing agent is across town, in a closing, showing another house, at the dentist, etc., she simply can't drop everything to be at a quick showing for you. So you miss out on that showing for a buyer who might already be in the neighborhood looking at houses similar to yours. Maybe there is a real estate "team" in your area that could be closer to what you want (though still no guarantee). A husband-wife-daughter type of thing where they all work together on the same listings.

I would like to see all the houses mentioned above. What a grim subject. A house behind me is currently in a tear down state. I dread to think what the new house might be like. I will keep watching. There is another house in my neighborhood that I think is darling. I grew up in this neighborhood I know that this house has changed almost nothing (at least outdoors) since it was built. The little white rocks somehow work in person. I admit they do not look that good on street view. I am sharing because I admire it so much. The wooden screen door is from the 90's I think.

Hey Donna, wonder where your Blues went? Glad you got to seem some again.

Our Blues are still around, mom and dad who are still looking horrible during their molting stage. The three first nesting fledgling girls who are looking pretty nice in their nice new adult colors and the four little ones from the second nesting. One day they even brought a male fledgling with them that was in the same stage of changing colors as the first nesting fledglings were. I have seen him twice now. He looks at the mealworm feeder but won't go inside. I see and hear the beautiful Blues every day both here and down at the park where I walk. They only have about a month and a half before I know they will be gone until next Spring but I am so glad they all seem to be healthy and sticking around for now.

Donna, how lucky you are to have your family still around, no matter how unattractive Mom and Dad appear! So glad they are healthy. I pray that my Mom and Dad, and the 10 fledglings from the 2 nestings, are thriving and doing well.
