I've been container gardening for decades. Before I knew better, I used some of the things you used, which are mostly bad in containers. Soil of any kind will compact and get mucky, attracting things like fungus gnats. It will interfere with drainage and cause root death. Lucky for you, smart pots can handle heavier potting mixes than other containers. But a soilless potting mix would be much better. And all that other stuff is nothing but garbage in a pot, attracting other bad guys, including flies and rats. Lucky for you the lizards are probably eating a lot of the bad insects, but they can't eat rats. Food waste belongs in a compost pile, not a container. It can take a year to break down into a form that feeds your plants. Balanced chemical fertilizers work much better. Thanks, Dan. I was wondering if the lizards eat snail/slug eggs. Online search seemed to indicate diet consists of small insects, etc. no mention of insect/bug eggs. Anyway, no matter what, I really enjoy the lizards .. sometimes scurry away when they see me, but often freeze and eye me ... maybe wondering if I'm too big to eat.....

Zyperiris, the odds were/are so bad with that many around. They are not aggressive which is a plus. I have a neighbor who is afraid of everything. Like if you have a tree she thinks it is going to fall on the house so she cuts it down! Has traps all over for rats, as if the neighborhood is infested, not. I don't thik she has a bug in her yard! When I moved into my house, ten years ago, she told me horror stories of Eucalyptus trees, branches breaking when kids are swinging, roots so shallow they fall over with no warning. My one giant tree is a Eucalyptus! ( I have always figured if something like that ever happens I have insurance! Not the kid falling from the swing, the tree falling down.haha) Can you imagine her hearing me almost daily out there "hah, I knew it(!), egg sacs", torch lighting, "now where are YOU hiding, I will find you...ahah! told you! I knew you were around here". Torch lights again..LOL I can't believe she hasn't said anything! I hope I am knocking down the population a bit for goodness sake! You know what they are like? Daddy long legs, everywhere! Except outside! Whew.

Karalynn, the eggs sound like anole eggs to me. Perfect description. I can't swear to it, but I'm pretty sure the snake eggs would be larger. (Wayne?) I move the lizard eggs out of pots all the time, and it doesn't seem to hurt them. No, the anoles and racerunners aren't toxic to my knowledge. My animals have killed (and sometimes eaten) both over the years, with no ill effects. I HAVE heard that skinks are poisonous, but I'll have to research that to be sure. (Again, if you are around Wayne, please share your knowledge with us. We are all trying to learn more about our reptilian garden visitors.) Marcia
