I have a pair of cedar waxwings that have begun to build a nest in a tree in our side yard. It's a flowering thunderchild crab and is perfect for them because the leaves match the colors on the waxwings. I put out a basket full of wool in our cherry tree that is a short distance from the tree they are building in. Cedar Waxwings love wool to build their nest. The nest is practically all wool. But there is another pair of waxwings that are building a nest further down the back lane that like to come and steal the wool from the nest even though they have been to the "wool supply" in my cherry tree and helped themselves to that wool. This past Saturday was cold and wet and the pair with the nest weren't around all day and the other pair came and practically dismantled the nest. Luckily on Sunday the original pair returned and started rebuilding it again. They were around all day yesterday so they were able to protect the nest and got alot of it rebuilt. This afternoon they haven't been around and I saw the other pair come to the nest and steal some wool. Wool is a very prized commodity for waxwings.
