I thought there had been discussion on this before? Picea pungens glauca 'Baby Blue Eyes' comes from Verl Holden of Holden Wholesale Growers, Silverton, Oregon. Named for Verl's nickname for his first wife. Verl is still around, active, and has a very long-standing relationship with the hort dept at OSU. OSU's database of trees on campus says "Discovered in 1972 as a chance seedling growing in a cultivated group of grafted Picea pungens 'Moerheimi' by Verl Holden in his nursery in Silverton, Oregon (Plant Patent 5,457)" I did notice that OSU has a typo, 'Blueeyes" that may well have contributed to the confusion. However, may I suggest that you satisfy your curiosity and then correct the ACS database by giving the originator a call? He's a wonderful person and a real wealth of information.

Difficult to tell for sure. Ive got about 12 baby blue and 2 baby blue eyes, all about that size at present. Of my trees (ymmv), the baby blue are definitely more blue while the baby blue eyes are more silvery (like yours). Ignoring the color, my BBE appear to have that form/branching style. .The best way to tell, however, may be how much you paid. The baby blue tend to be about half the price (or less) of the baby blue eyes, at least here in Ohio (where conifers seem to be noticeably cheaper compared to whenever I see prices mentioned from other parts of country on here). Id say if you paid (full price) $70 or more it is prob BBE. $60 or less, probably BB. I got most of my BB on special (they just picked the worst looking ones and marked em down to 10). I like em both and looking forward to seeing variations in the seed grown BB. The BB are also supposed to be narrower which I like.

I have had blue birds' nest in my 2 houses for many years and never had a problem other than one time a snake or something got them. I fixed that problem. However, this year our first brood of 5 were within days of fledging and they all died. The only thing different this year is when they were feeding, I had my house washed and the guy used a fairly strong clorox based cleaner unlike my previous hose washer who used a enviro-friendly house wash. The blue birds and other birds were grabbing up the worms being flushed up from all the water and feeding the babies in a frenzy. I only let this guy wash my house because he was a neighbors nephew or some other kin. I didn't know he used a Clorox based cleaner or I would have not let him do it, I would have gotten my usual guy to do it. Clorox isn't good for vinyl siding nor the environment, but not sure about blaming the Clorox for the kill.
