I'm not from hawaii, but it seems like it would work. Its a double potting method, kinda like using mulch to keep rose roots cool. When you return to Hawaii could you get a fridge to keep the plants in? Kinda like chilling daffodil bulbs? Depending on what strawberries you got they might not need a deep cold to grow right.

Thanks! I tried to sneak back and take a photo when the sun was out for about 20 minutes but the oriole stayed away. Meanwhile, it went back to raining again. It's been mostly raining off and on-mostly on- a slow drizzle for weeks now. Meanwhile, the leaves are opening and I can see my hopes for more warbler photos in a sunny woods fading. But last year, when the weather stayed fair during spring migration, KY suffered a severe drought that lasted until this current rain, so I should be grateful for it. Now they're putting out flood warnings.

I had a series of raccoon (probably) attacks on my jam feeders, resulting in breakage of the jelly jar itself and the hanger. For a while the coon was throwing the other feeder on the ground, and I would just put it back up in the morning. The last time though, the metal hanger disappeared so I couldn't use the bottom. I rigged up a temporary feeder out of a hanging flower pot apparatus and I plopped a few spoonfuls of grape and apricot preserves in the saucer. This feeder was meant to be a stopgap until I rigged up a better one, but I'll leave it up as long as it lasts. The neighbor's dog is back from a long vacation and this feeder hasn't been bothered. This morning I saw the first Baltimore Oriole fledgling at this feeder. I think that's a fledgling in front with the mother in the back watching over the baby. i have 5 to 6 pairs of Bullocks orioles nest around me every year. and they have anywhere from 3 to 5 babys for each pair. towards the end of July the males started leaving and are all gone. over the last 3 weeks i had anywhere from 5 adults females and about 20 fedglings coming and going from the necter feeders and the jelly dishes from sunup to sundown. but this week the numbers are going down each day. today i only had a group of four in and out. Mine are usually all gone by the first of Sept. but in late april the males start coming back and by mid may the females.
