Hey jean001, Thanks for your interest. They were planted in 2000. I wouldnt be surprised if it's a root issue. Just today (no lie) my wife and I finally threw in the towel on two white pineds that went in the ground as part of the same job. It took me an hour with a pickaxe and wire cutters to remove a stump root ball the size of a gallon of milk! 6+ ft. when my mom bought them in 2000. Plus the past 10 years in the ground and the root ball is that size? And why the wire cutters? Well the dolts that put them in didn't cut away any of the wire basket. I would have the yorkie owner walk her dogs and you walk your dogs, all at the same time in neutral territory. That way nobody is boss, everyone can do the sniff thing and settle down. THEN keep the two trouble makers on a leash for supervised play in the yard. That way when trouble starts the dogs can be put into a sitting or down position and will understand it is a human who runs things not dogs. For long term get togethers without humans, is it possible to provide a "safe zone" so that the yorkies can go someplace and be safe without the Saints being able to follow, or can you put the more assertive dog on a cable run...they are safest, nobody can choke that way.

once heard a speech at hosta college between the difference between urban and rural deer ... urban deer.. when hungry.. will eat just about anything ... especially under stress ... rural deer ... as babs notes.. have a lot of production crop to feed on during a big part of the season .. out here.. most damage.. comes in really bad winters ... after that speech i noticed the same effect with rabbits ... in suburbia.. with lawn warrior grass being pervasive.. rabbits go after your garden ... but out here with a former horse pasture that i call a lawn ... the rabbits browse the pasture buffet ... clover.. yarrow.. plantain ... rarely do they bother my gardens ... dont get caught up in your Disney/bambi world ... vermin are vermin ... no matter how cute and fuzzy they are ... and no matter how big they are ... if those two drop a youngin.. then next year you have 4 ... then 8 .. then etc ... if the golden is trained to the property.. let him chase them off next time ...no way he will ever catch them ... but they will get the idea he doesnt want them there ... enjoy looking at them.. on someone elses property .. lol ... ken
