Hi, They are different. Trumpet vine is a native perennial vine while Cypress vine is an annual. There is also a slight difference between Cypress Vine and Cardinal Climber even though their names get interchanged often (even among the seed companies, reputable ones at that!). Both are annuals, flowers pretty much the same but the foliage is very different. I personally like the foliage of the Cardinal Climber better. I would do research on the perennial Trumpet Vine if you decide to go with that one. I had planned on growing it but upon further research, I was frightened off. I live in warm zone 8 and Trumpet vine sounded just a tad bit more of a hearty grower than what I am willing to deal with. But like I said, I'm in a much different growing zone than you. A neighbor of mine had a trumpet vine growing over her stockade fence that never flowered in all the years she had it. Last summer she said she was digging it out and getting rid of it because it never flowered. She never "got around" to it and this summer it is blooming fabulouly! Maybe it overheard us talking about it's proposed demise. LOL. :) :) :) :) She didn't do anything different to get it to bloom. Maybe it just takes years before it blooms? Maybe it is because this summer has been incredibly HOT? I tried planting trumpet vine this year and it never even grew.

Campsis radican 'Flava' is the most widely available yellow flowered sort. Mention of the trumpet vine, or trumpet creeper usually brings a storm of comment, because it is so vigorous and invasive. I had a 'Madame Galen' on the chimney before we put an addition just there and had to cut the vine down. Its seedlings are on the property and so deeply rooted that I will always have them. 'Jersey Peach' grows on the pool deck fence and I am gathering and destroying every seed pod before they open. The sort you have is growing very slowly in considerable shade on an out-building I built and may, eventually get into more sun on the roof. Then it may finally bloom and make seed pods for me to chase. I ordered another 'M. Galen' for a rather wild spot and a 'Morning Calm, also growing too slowly in a shady place. Beautiful vines that bloom for a long time, are too vigorous and constantly drop spent flowers in a great mess. A great favorite of hummingbirds.
