E. Wood-pewee fledglings, warblers

Now that the woods are too dark for my Canon 40D, I decided to do what worked for the Worm-eating Warblers and try to shoot into the woods from Narnia Ridge. As I was toiling up the steep deer trail almost on hands and knees I noticed a shadow moving through the brush ahead.

A Hermit Thrush?

I went off trail again to try to get pics of a flock of Cedar Waxwings feasting on berries

When I got back on the trail, I noticed a fledgling Eastern Wood-Pewee preening on a branch

I happened to glance in the brush below and there were more adorable fledglings, waiting their turns

When I climbed back down the mountain, I noticed a pair of Louisiana Waterthrushes fly into the creek gully, so slipped closer to see

When I got home I admired the Irises blooming in front of the house..must be close to Memorial Day

It's been raining off and on for weeks, so the leaves are mostly out now, and plenty of grass when I tethered the mule and horse out to graze

I keep the new shelter Jack Russell on the deck when he's not with me to keep the wildlife safer,

but now the Carolina Wrens are building a nest on top of a cabinet on the deck.

I'll have to make sure the terriers are off the deck when the babies approach fledging time
