Wow! Beautiful bird--it looks like a tropical bird with those brilliant colors. Here we have the Western Bluebird, even more blue and prettier than the Scrub Jay, and the Orioles as well. And of course all the Hummingbirds. There are also two roosters now that the coyotes have not gotten yet, that are still waking me up at 4am... One is a cute little rooster that someone dumped at the local park. How mean, huh? It has taken up residence in the neighbor's Pineapple Guava tree. The other rooster lives at another neighbor's and was guaranteed to be a hen. Some guarantee!

Thank you Moccasinlanding! Yes, my albo is going tob eb HUGE this year! It has been with me 3yrs now! Yes, I am a container growere. For several reasons. Mostly it helps keep slugs out. But also because the ground is so rocky here in MO. And you can move them when and if needed so they don't get too much sun or bad weather. I know a couple of neighbors had thier hostas in the ground somehow and they just don't do well. So mine are container hostas and thriving and beautiful. I am the envy of my neighborhood! All of mine are different and unique. So the Wheeee fit right in. I just adore it. I was so impressed that Lowes had it. In this area, unique hostas are hard to come by in stores like this. I bought my 4 "babies" last year from a private grower. and paid a pretty penny for them, too... Even for seedlings. But I am so glad I did and no regrets.

Am fascinated by the beautiful Painted Bunting, so have been reading up on it. Most of you probably already knew these things, but will post what I have learned, just in case P B Facts: Member of Cardinal family. Bright colored with blue head, green back and red stomach is male. Drab colored green is female. Shy, difficult to see. Mostly monogmous. Sometimes hops along on ground. Seed eater. Oklahoma is one of its Summer breeding areas. At one time was a captured, caged bird, but now illegal. Is nearing endangered list, especially on East Coast due to losing habitat to industry and construction. The most colorful bird in America. Thanks to Dawn's and Gayle's suggestion, I am going to buy Millet seed to add to my feeders, as I want them to be repeat visitors, along with my many other bird visitors. As I have said before, my favorite gardening poem on "My Page" expresses how I feel about life. Jeanie

Looks like it is a black-headed grosbeak in its adult-breeding plumage (based on perusing my Sibley's). Dave
