Cute! I've seen variants before, but I don't let House Finches eat at my feeders any more.

Strangely, when one lands on my feeder and I walk towards the window, the House Finches fly away while the American Golfinches and others stay on the feeders. After a few times they don't return.
Also, a baby squirrel polished off my fruit slices, so I also walked toward it, gently telling it the fruit was for the birds and it never came back.

zaffisc, I've never seen one of those. I do have male house finches that feed at my feeder. They have bright red on their heads and breasts and are one of my favorite birds. I wouldn't chase them away for nothing.

Wow, that is cool. I have never seen a yellow one before. We have had light orange ones though, I read somewhere about what makes the color not red like it is supposed to be, something with their diet if I recall correctly.

I've never seen a yellow either. We have many HF this year and they are the least shy of all the bids. They routinely land about 4 ft from me to drink from the deck water bath. I like how they take a drink and lean their head way back, like they are pouring it from their mouth into their stomach.

Yep it has to do with their diet. Eating something more of something causes the color change. Can't remember what the diet consists of though.
