Cardinal Interruption

It's been a while since I posted here. That's because I became unhappy with my Konica-Minolta camera. It performed poorly in low light and took a long time to focus in any light.

I recently acquired a Pentax K-x. I got the kit that includes the 55-300mm lens, which equates to 82-450mm in 35mm terms. I've been very pleased with the results and so I've started up my Wanamassa Birds blog again.

For nine years, I've been hoping to get a picture of a kingfisher at our local "duck pond". In that time, I've had maybe one or two glimpses a year but only about three times did I get a good view, but never good enough for a photo.

I've taken to waiting for a good time at the duck pond in a position that gives me a very good shot at one of the perches that it used. Yesterday, while I was waiting, I was able to get some good shots of a catbird, two grackles, a solitary sandpiper and a cardinal. Here's the shot of the cardinal:
