a description...

i have a new visitor of the last few days:

he is about the size of a sparrow and has a grey head, grey chest and chestnut brown backside. there is some black with white spotting on the neck area as well. i cannot find a bird that looks even close to it in Petersons Field Guide of North American birds. he frequents the feeders and is eating black-oil seeds and is a little skittish.

i am in vancouver canada. help is appreciated.

My initial thought is Dark-eyed Junco. There are several races which vary in appearance. I've linked a googled image of a likely candidate.

nope- i have the chestnut backed chickadees already and the oregon juncos.the closest bird that it looks like is the fieldfare, but the book says that they are too large for it to be one.it is a summer bird and not year round.also there is some black on the head just under the grey part of the head.
