video of woodduck

First video is the night before they left the nest-Mom is gone to get something to eat and I think only about half are hatched. (short video). There is a bullfrog in the pond singing to them.

Second video is when mom leaves the nest box and calls them to Jump.

They jump out and into the pond. It is a longer video, but it is fun to watch them climb out.

There was a total of 19.

She had 19 eggs under her when she started sitting (not all hers, as several ducks visited the nest)

One duck came in and fought with her mid nesting and laid an egg--there was one unhatched egg in the nest when I cleaned it out.

Thanks so much for sharing that. What an amazing thing to witness. Some of the poor little things seemed confused. I can't believe how high up they made it on those smooth walls when they went the wrong way.

That last video is just TOO ADORABLE!!! Thank you so much for posting this! It took a bit of time, but those calls from the mother certainly eventually triggered a strong instinct to follow. Love the way they launched boldly out of the box in which they'd spent their entire life

    Glad you enjoyed them.
Our second box is about due. Mom is gently talking to the eggs. It has turned cool and windy here in lower Michigan, so hope they don't hatch for another day or so.
She sat so sporadically I am not sure when they should hatch.
She sat from 9-2 and then would leave and not come back till the next day for several days, so we will see how many of her eggs hatch. She also has had many visits from a second duck during her sitting time(poor eggs were really smacked around several times), so if they left eggs, I am sure they will not hatch as they will not have had enough time.
It has been fun and time consuming watch what goes on in
    THE BOX.
