trouble with robins

Robins have been my blues problem this yr. not HOSP or Wrens, I'm afraid they killed one of the babies, I'm only seeing 2 today with Dad in the trees....since my blues came back this spring the Robins have been chasing them from the top of their BB house all around the yard or if they're sitting on the wire they attack them. I don't remember them being this bad last yr. just wondered if anyone else is having problems with these aggressive birds?

I do not believe Robins would kill a baby Blue or any other bird.

I can't imagine a Robin being aggressive. They are always quite peaceful around here. I have never seen them go after any other bird.

Thanks MKRuby, I look forward to the 6th to see who I'll be trading with, I have already started on my May box in an effort to be on time this month. I hope you can use some of the plants I sent to you. Your in a climate similar to mine and everything I sent does well here. I am excited to see my first trade box too. I will post when it arrives and let everyone know about the goodies I get. Thank you for doing this monthly trade, I know it is a huge undertaking and your very appreciated for doing it.

I want more color in Winter, so I planted a winterberry bush, hoping the fairly common ones in the neighborhood would provide pollen. The bush I planted was a female, for the red berries,but a male must be nearby, so insects can carry the pollen. Several years passed by with a dozen or less berries, each Fall. Bought a small male, and it was lost, because someone probably stepped on it. Probably me! Finally got another male and, while still potted from the nursery, put it under the female bush. Amazing display of berries in Sept. We're talking about 5 years of patience here. My first wave of robins swept through, last week of Sept., and took almost every berry, ignoring the regular hollies,native to my woods. Gardening is like that. I just laughed.

I have a Robin's nest in the tree closest to my bluebird house, and the bluebird sits in that same tree keeping watch sometimes. No problems between them at all. Once in awhile one or the other wants that sitting spot, but there is no actual aggressive behavior.

Robins around here do chase the Bluebirds and other birds but I doubt they would harm them. They are just keeping birds away from their nest and babies.

Robins are usually only aggressive in response to predators or other threats near their nest. I've also seen them steal other bird's perches. (Which I find odd)

If anything, a hawk would be the problem. One always comes around here terrorizing our local birds but a neighbor seems to continue to feed. Consider yourself blessed if you have a hawk free neighborhood, because I sure don't!
