The plant with lots of green tomatoes will ripen eventually. A lot of factors influence how quickly - weather and heridity being two. There are some rather drastic things you can do to make the plant think the season is almost over. I don't recommend them and will leave it to others to say how. If they don't start to turn before cool weather returns (40 deg. at night), post again and we'll consider options.
Black Cherry is a huge plant for me spilling out of the 5 ft cages and back down to ground and setting hundreds of fruit. The fruit sets in trusses like many cherry tomatoes. Are yours like that or singles and doubles? You may have crossed seeds or a small purple that was mislabled.

The key to your questions are in your first sentence: "a bit later in the season than I used to plant". How much of a "bit later" was it? When did you plant and how big were they?

Barkeater (do you really eat it?), I didn't think I could tell you when I bought the plants âÂ" I hadn't the faintest idea. But then I remembered that I went to a concert that day and bought a commemorative t-shirt. So I got it out of my drawer and looked at the date: June 23.

The plants weren't huge, but they were somewhat tall, if that tells you anything. I'm guessing about a foot tall. One of them had several blossoms, which the grower pinched off before she gave it to me. I planted them very deeply.

Yesterday and today were HOT and humid. I forgot to look at the arrangement of fruit on the so-called Black Cherry. I'll report back tomorrow.

June 23'rd is very late for zone 4, but I would expect they'll ripen as we approach the next full moon in September.

I have a lot of plants that were only 5 weeks old when I planted them the end of May which I don't expect to mature until then either.

Pray that there isn't an early freeze.

Have some bed sheets handy to cover the plants it can ward off the first few frosts while the days are still warm. If the tomatoes have the "white star" pattern on the bottom I would pull the whole plant up when daytime temps start to get cooler later on and then hang this plants in the house in a dark cool area and they will ripen.
