I believe it is a fungus. I just pulled a plant and found it in the bottom of the bucket. Plant was healthy but the roots did not go down to the bottom of the pot. Dumped all the soil though just to be sure. Maybe too much moisture. The only reference I could find was "White Snow" mold. They talk about it for Orchids, but I believe it could be the same since we use alot of the same ingredients in our mixtures. Mealy worms not too sure of, since the only ones I ever saw I fed to my lizards as a kid. Here is a link that might be useful: white fungus

The only thing it resembles to me is premature autumn coloring, otherwise I assume your plants are not lacking water, or those pale leaves do not have injured stems.

I found it is very common with the Fortunei and have a few F. Hyacinthina sports going on as well... one looking very Gold Standard like. Another with random white streaks. And then there is my Francee, and those streaked F. Aureomarginatas we are keeping our eyes on. My first hosta of about 10 years (I brought a piece with me to this house) is Gold Standard. I have an eye of that with a distinct darker gold between the center and the edge. That one has me curious how it is going to look this year. It should be opening up soon. I get excited over sports, even if they don't amount to much over time. For me, it is like a mellow form of hunt and gather when I scan rows of hosta looking for that odd ball, but its even better when they occur in our own backyards.
