Great to hear they popped in for a visit! Had a pair of males stop by my safflower feeder on Thursday. First time I've ever even seen these birds, and at my feeder! They haven't been back since, so I'm guessing they happened to be traveling through.

Yes I had a pair spend three or four days w/ me. They hung around my back yard and frequened my sunflower heart feeder. Didn't see them yesterday so they either evaded my watch, took the cold damp day off from thei heavy feeding or got sick of my dogs & competing w/ the cardinals (they didn't play nice) and moved on.
It took me several days & an Audubon guide to figure out what they were. Donna here figured it out about the same time I did. I thought they might be Towhees but the bill wasn't right & had much less red on them. Any way 1st time seeing these in my entire 47 yr life, anywhere nevermind my back yard. I'm in West Chester PA. Where are you guys? I'm guessing these are rare, at least in my area. So strikingly beautiful aren't they!

I'm in Masschusetts and this was the first time that I've ever seen one too! The color of the breast was a beautiful color rose, and highlighted against the black and white, it was stunning. I haven't seen him since Saturday, I wish they would stick around but I don't think so, but you never know right?

I live in mid-Missouri and had the first one come to my yard about 5-6 years ago. Also had to look up what it was. The next year I had about 5. The following year about 10. They cleaned my feeders out daily, but worth it. Then there was fewer each year. Last year saw 1 female, and this year nothing so far. I say enjoy them while you can.

I live in a Western Chicago suburb. I had them all the time in my other house which bordered a forest preserve of primarily oak trees. In this house I have a lot of Maple trees around, and I only see them a few times a year at the feeder.
