here in colorado i have the grosbeaks and orioles already but the hummers are not showing up yet. Probably a good thing as the necter feeders and the jelly are freezing at night unless i bring them in at night. brrr.

I only had a male hummer, have not seen the females yet....but I know they are not far behind!!

I've seen a few male hummers but yesterday the first female arrived, so I figure these will be staying around.

The first male was probably a transient, I just saw him once.

Orioles arrived a few days ago along with catbirds.

I've never seen grosbeaks here in SE MA.

Great pics, Claire! Where did you find the jelly jar holder? I've not seen one like that & would like to offer jelly that way. I've heard "my" orioles & seen an orange blur in the treetops but haven't had a good look yet. There have been orioles nesting in the same oak tree for at least 12 years, maybe longer. "My" chimney swifts are also back-no more fires for the season!

Susan: I bought mine at a local Agway (all the Agways around here carry bird paraphernalia) but you can buy them online from Duncraft. You have to use a 10 or 12 ounce jelly jar because the feeder screws onto the jar, but you can just clean and refill the jar it from a larger stock. I keep a couple of 12 ounce jars clean and refilled, and I alternate them.

Love the catbird pic!!!! I can't wait for mine to arrive. They love the little stream attached to my pond. Always hanging around the water :)
