How odd

I have a bluebird box right outside my kitchen window, and in the past several years I can't even tell you how many babies have been born and fledged from that box. Nearly a hundred, Im sure, as they will often raise 3 or 4 broods a year. Well, right now I have 2 or 3 babies very close to fledging; in fact, probably will today, as they are poking their little heads out right now. Well, Mr. Bluebird is still feeding them, but Mrs. Bluebird is building a next over top of them. Its like Grand Central Station in the box this morning, from Mr. B feeding them, Mrs. B bringing grass to build her nest, and the babies poking their heads out.

What is going on with that female? She isnt feeding the babies at all, just building a nest around them. Is it possible she isnt their mom, that she's a new female?

Its the funniest thing. Babies poking their heads out, Mrs. B coming with a huge mouthful of nesting material; she goes in, arranges the furniture, she leaves, and the babies poke their heads out like "what is going on here???". Hopefully they will fledge today.

In fact, as I was typing this, I just saw both babies leave the box. Yay!!! Probably got tired of the furniture being move around them! I guess Ill go clean the box out, and let Mrs. B make her new nest.

I love nature.
