that was an ugly little storm for us too, just a few miles up the road, in tomball, my cousin lost power all night i didn't get a chance to make it to the property to tend to covering anything up, but i don't think we saw any hail to speak of, 2" of rain in the raingage tho i hear we're gonna have a wee cold snap on sunday night, and i do plan to cover my tom's and peppers, and my wee vines that are just breaking ground i have some milk jugs with the bottoms cut out to use as cloches my girlfriend uses wide mouthed mason jars, but i think my tom's and peppers are too big for that, but i might be able to use them (my mason jars) on my vines dang texas weather tesa

Oh Don, I'm so sorry. It is so disappointing. I know how much you love your fragrants---and all your hosta. I suffered hail damage last year. I felt so helpless watching those ice pellets come crashing down and then in an instant it all stopped. It's like a nightmare. On another note, I am so happy that some of your gardens were saved from hail damage. That is what happened in my garden too. That year I chose to concentrate my energy more on the ones that were unharmed---looking at the good/beautiful rather than the bad/ugly---and hoping that hail would not return again for at least a few years---or better yet---never!!!! I like what Babka said---the strong roots are still there---and we know that is the foundation of the plant. I know, I know---but still . . . . So sorry.

I would have posted a pic of the hail piled up in my window box, but yesterday was the Sabbath, and one cannot take pictures or use the computer on the Sabbath. But if you imagine overturning a bunch of paper cups of Coke with ice over on my window box, you'd get the idea of how it looked. Went out on the balcony today and fortunately, saw no hail damage. Still worried about no pips from Ripple Effect, Paisley Print, Cameo, Grand Prize, Dinner Mint, Smiling Sailor and a couple more. Paradise Island sent up 1 pip last week, but it seems in stasis; has not grown more, nor have any additional pips emerged in the pot. Could this have to do with the low temps we've been having? In the 60s/day and 40s/night?

Goodness gracious. I'm not sure if an expensively thick vinyl (even better than 0.042") could withstand that size of hail. Looks like a metal roof too, and I'd hate to see any cars.
