Pathetic Yields - $30 / lb....

I bought 6 small tomato plants @ $4.50 each and spent lots of money on deer netting and poles etc.

The one cherry tomato plant grew to about 6 ft and then collapsed under its own weight with the stem doubled over - with dire consequences for the fruit. A couple of "heirloom" tomatoes have produced three tomatos each, one none-descript has zero, and another one has three tomatoes. The soil is terrific loam and the plants have lots of sun.

Now I am new to tomatoes - so where's the beef? What am I doing wrong. I am sure that sensible folks dont spend $30 to get 1 pound of tomatoes - maybe. I have watered with "miracle grow" and some expensive vitamin solution....nada nada.....
