Monco, What garden zone are you in and where are you located? Knowing those can affect the types of answers you get. You can add them to your signature. As missingtheobvious says, it usually isn't a good idea to water in the evening because damp leaves promote disease, but if you are in a desert area (very low humidity) like I am, it isn't a concern. Your plants look pretty good, especially considering they had to recover from herbicide damage. As to the apparent lack of growth on your cherry tomatoes: You don't say what variety they are, but the DTM (Days to Maturity from transplanting) for most cherry type tomatoes is 55-60 days and up. Which would mean that since you transplanted them on June 11, around August 11 you will likely be up to your ears in cherry tomatoes! Your baby 'maters look like they are right on schedule. One thing I would suggest you may wish to modify is your water pattern. As a general rule, tomatoes need an inch of water every week. An inch of rain is exactly that, water that is one inch deep. One inch of rainfall equals 4.7 gallons of water per square yard. Cool weather or soil with lots of clay needs will be less, hot weather or sandy soil will need more. Dig down with your finger about 4", is the growing medium wet, dry, or just right? If it is wet, don't water, if dry then water. If it is just right, check again the next day. Water deeply once or twice a week. Watering daily encourages shallow roots which means the plant is affected more by variations in soil moisture/temperature. In my garden during the heat of the summer (like now, they last few days have ranged from 90 to 103 degrees F), I water deeply every 4-5 days, early spring I may only water every 8-9 days and when the weather is moderatly warm (70-80 degrees), about once a week. In the long run, deeper watering requires less water because there is less evaporation. Mulching heavily (to a depth of 6 - 8 inches) with compost, straw, hay, rotted leaves, grass clippings, even shredded paper or sheets of paper or cardboard helps maintain a consistent moisture level. Sorry, you are disappointed with your cherries. The Earthbox is a great product so it may be just your variety choices as mentioned. I also find with some tomatoes the flavors improve as the days pass. While yellow pear may have some admirers there are many who find the taste bland and the texture yukky--I am in the latter camp. Can't imagine it being tart though--maybe it is just the first few off the vine. Hopefully you will like them better given a little bit more time. A great SWEET red cherry available most everywhere is Sweet Million or Sweet 100--taste like candy (Psss, don't tell anyone but I like them better than SunGold). Hopefully you got that one and will like them more and more as they ripen. Not sure which other type of cherry you may have purchased?? I have read that tomato plants need full sun to develop maximum sweetness--hope you have those conditions.

Yumtomatoes, My eyes and my mouth suggest to me that all the tomatoes on one plant may not be GENETICALLY IDENTICAL!!! Furthermore, I have saved and kept segregated seed from two tomatoes sourced from the same plant. These were planted in rows side by side the next spring. There were observable differences in row to row performance, as well as plant to plant performance in the same row. Of course, there is the rare chance one or both could have been externally cross pollinated--not very likely. On only one occasion have I gone to the trouble of bagging a blossom cluster before they opened, then saved the seed for future use. Though I did not do side by side row comparisons from seed collected from more than one tomato I did see plant to plant variation from single tomato sourced seed. I have a suspicion that there are trivial genetic variations in all seed from the same fruit and major variations between some of the seeds. I can't otherwise account for what I have observed.

There's also individual variation between plants of the same variety. Genetics are not identical--just stable for the traits of the variety. The way 2 German shepherds will meet the breed standard but not be clones of one another at all. For example, I have 2 Earl of Edgecombe plants in similar sized containers right next to one another, getting fed and watered the same. One is very branchy/bushy and has twice the fruit set of the other. But it had early BER, has smaller fruits, and is slower to produce ripe fruit. The other is more tree-like in habit with a clear main stem, has fewer fruit, but average fruit size is larger, and it's ripening earlier. Both have the same foliage, though, and fruit characteristics are very similar. It's hard to draw solid conclusions from small sample sizes. You'd have to grow out a bunch of plants in identical conditions except for the variable you're testing. Or, if you wanted to do a very small sample size, you could probably take suckers of the same plant and root those and grow those to compare. But you'd have to account for the time difference/maturity difference of the suckers.
