Our first robin of 2010. This was some distance away, but it sure looks perky.

This is my favorite photo of a titmouse x 2.

Here is another type of bird. I had to include it with my other birds since I think it is a neat photo. My husband took all of these photos with his ZS3 12x. The airplane was on maximum zoom of 85x digital. It is not a photo you could enlarge, but I thought you might want to see what 85x can get you, without a tripod.

Wow!!!! Mr. Robin sure is looking robust. I imagine that he is ready to share the gene pool!! I love the Titmice photo. I know that they seldom sit in one spot for long, and a capture like this is wonderful. If birds could have ADHD, they would be on the ADHD bird list!! :o)
That other bird isn't in any of my field guides. May need to send that one on for an expert ID!!

Sounds like you have a regular green ensete, and not ensete "maurelli". These are the same species, and there is no clear boundry between them. Some just have more red. Cooler climates seem to enhance the red in the ensetes. Tropical climes seem to give more green.

I love your card! What a cute idea. I've been planning to make some cards with raised designs. I'm not sure what they are called, but the end result is a 3D scene. I think I'll try the movable parts cards too. Do you have any other ideas? I've been wanting to make the puppets from photos. I'll try to find the website with instructions and post a link. they are so cute!

Thanks for sharing the robin. A really cute card. I bet your mom loved it and apppreciated the time you spent making something so special for her. It would mean a lot to me if my daughter would do something like that. We won't see a robin around here again for about five months.

An update, for all, but especially Linda, The blooms hadn't started opening up under the magnifying glass thingy after a week. So I'm thinking wrong color or weak light. So..... I bought one of those el cheapo stainless fixtures (with a clip) yesterday, per Linda's suggestion. I attached it to the magnifying glass thingy for an easy fix. I put a 1100 lumen CFL bulb in it. I walked by 2 hours later and the blooms had opened all of the way up! I flicked them with my finger and I could see the pollen dust flying! I might have little toms when I get home today! LOL

Great to see them staking out breeding territories in the yard, even though most of them overwinter in nearby woods. Titmice and Carolina Chickadees have been singing for the past three weeks-even through the heavy snow and ice storms

Hey, we get that last flyer in our neighborhood. LOL

My dh is a pilot of those kind of birds, so we do a lot of that kind of 'bird' watching, too. Nice photo!
