Painted bunting...2 pics...

we've never ever seen one before. It hung out near our feeder all day. I hope it stays around. (we're in the Ocala National Forest in central FL for the winter, about 60 miles west of Daytona Beach in case anyone wants to know where we saw this).

Canon Rebel XTi, Canon 70-200mm F4.0L IS lens.

This has to be one of the nicest photographed painted buntings I have ever seen!
And a male Cardinal behind,....I'm jealous, we don't have them here.

To my eye it is the wall color that is off. And I agree with this crowd about changing the hardware. I also agree about the window area and wonder if adding a piece of reflective or colorful artwork above it might help? It's a big span of blank wall where one would expect a window. Or open shelves there to connect the bare space between the cabs flanking the window. I actually wouldn't put any window treatment in the window - but I don't usually like window treatments in any case! I'd prefer a collection of translucent glass vases in the window or something like that. Nothing to take the light away.

its quite a large bright space and the white enhances that. I think the backsplash is fine. You can change it but in this space I dont think you need to...maybe later. The splash reads textural and isn't that much of a statement and the darker shading maybe is desirable as contrast with all the white.....there may be some plus to it actually. I think in the middle of the space at the island is where you ought place emphasis. Get some great stools unless the former ones are coming back. Installing pendant lighting would be a big enhancement right there as well. If you dont want the feature of pendant lights you have another opportunity at the window. there is space for an accent table/plants/ a small bookcase/ something there would make it feel your personal space. There's an outlet there. you could get the perfect sized small portable kitchen cart/island..not big ....and place coffee /etc there.

If it's white and it comes off when wet, then I'd suspect that it's joint compound that hasn't been painted. However, I don't find ordinary joint compound to have a bad odor like you describe, and it wouldn't be shiny. Not sure what you have there then. If it has an odor that bothers you, and it washes off, then I'd recommend that you just wash it off.

Joan, he belongs to me! I am in northern Palm Beach County and have them at my feeder all winter - 2 males and at least 6 females. They left about 2 weeks ago and will return in October. Nice pictures.
