Gracious-lucky you! Love those little DARLINs!
I've seen our Carolina Wrens acting as though they were nesting in the winter, but here in eastern Kentucky, March really is spring. Once the winter weather breaks it usually gets up at least in the 50s during the day from then on. They love nesting next to people (very endearing habit, and takes of advantage of humans being intimidating to most predators) and I have to make sure I keep my garage door closed or they can get in and start building a nest in a can of nails within minutes

Donna is that birdhouse going to be safe for them? Not too hot in direct sun, drain holes in the bottom and such? Your so lucky, we don't have those little guys around here. Just House Wrens :(

we have had over normal snowfall this winter. there is still a couple foot of snow on the fields with only a few bare spots under trees.
But the pair of Lewis's woodpeckers are here early and the male is drumming on the light pole setting up his territory but the male and female are both coming to the feeders together so i don't think they are ready to start with the eggs. the juncos and chickadees and most of the winter birds are still here and usually leave about the later part of march to nest elsewhere. My orioles come mid april to late april to nest close bu usually 3 pairs.
Most of the spring birds do not show up till mid april to mid may. and have not seen any of them yet.

Where do you live? I would be really surprised to see birds building nests now too, but then again, we have mostly grass and little snow here in Boston(a bit unusual). I wonder if early warmer conditions like that influence when the birds feel comfortable nesting. (I'm guessing...) I'll keep an eye out too, we had a Carolina wren family nest here last summer. Keep us posted!

Rachel..they sure are little darlings, and I love watching their antics every day....such personality! And speaking of garages...about a month ago, they started roosting on one the metal joints (?) on the garage door. They will start roosting before DH gets home, so I have to leave the door open all night! Hubby thought I was nuts but he has reluctantly given in.

Lisa, our breezeway is covered so the bird house is totally safe from the elements...my concern was that the constant opening and closing of the door would disturb them. I will be keeping a close eye on things and see what happens and hope everything will be OK.

Maybe they are sick and tired of waiting for Spring too Donna! I have a pair of Carolina Wrens here, but I have not noticed them building yet. I do have a new nest already in one of the little houses on my front porch. You guessed it. It's a Carolina Chickadee nest!! I have been watching to try to see whether they are roosting in that box at night too. I guess the birds know when it's time to get down to business.

Our wren pair nested in a nestbox I put up on a pole about six feet tall next to a corner post of our fence, about 20' from the house. It was our first nesting here since we started our backyard habitat, so I have a special affection for these birds. I kept their nest when I cleaned out the box.

We have had one wren visit our feeders this winter...I have some photos of him/her that are so funny. I don't know whether the pair stuck around or not. I hope they nest here again. They are among my very favorites.

I do love my little Carolina Wrens here. They are the first to sing in the morning, and it's such a pretty song. I try to find little houses which are cute and also functional, and I put them out for the wrens and chickadees.The one in the pic has a nice sized clean out door on the back. It's also nice and deep. I hung it on a hook and also secured it tightly to the porch post with fishing line so that the wind won't toss it around.
