Hi, my neighbor and I have boxes about 100 yards apart and we have never had nests at the same time. It's a shame because we both love them but they just won't use both boxes. I'll be interested to see if others have experience with nesting in boxes that close.

Your neighbors Blues won't affect you from getting Blues. Their territories are 100yds so the spacing is perfect.

As far as the wren...bad news. They won't let other birds nest near them. If you let them nest and add another box chances are they will destroy the eggs in that box. They can and will pierce and throw other birds eggs out of their nest boxes and will also throw newly hatched nestlings out of their nest boxes. I do not let wrens nest in my yard...keep taking out their sticks daily. They never give up though once they found a box. If I were you I would probably open the nestbox up and leave it that way for a few days and hope the wren moves on.

Oh and just to add, I have had two pairs of Blues nesting 100yds apart before. Last year I had a pair and my neighbor had a pair, the boxes are approx. 100yds apart. Also two other times I had a pair in my immediate yard and then another pair at the back of our lot which is approx. 100 yds from the in the yard Blues.

I agree about the wrens, the male wren will make dummy nests in all cavities he finds with sticks. It is perfectly fine to remove the sticks, but not a nest cup that a female builds. It's always risky business letting wrens nest.

If you do manage to get two pairs of EABL in your area, as long as their territories don't overlap, then they will nest 100 yards apart.
