why tomatos take so long

Why do my cherry tomatos allways take so long i sowed them on a heated mat @ 68f (20c) on window cill the mid of febuary.

After the last chance of frost mid march i put outside into 1 gallon pots.

They took ages to start flowering end may-mid june.

And i started to get pin tomatoes showing mid july.

It is now mid august i have lots of eatable size tomatos but but they are green except 1 ripe one so it has been about 6 months 180 days and have lots of green toms and 1 red.

Also why do they ripen one at a time when in the supermarket you can get a hole truss of georgeous ripe cherry tomatos.

When with mine i have 1 red and none of the others showing any sign of starting to rippen yet.
