Sounds like your plant is making a nice recovery after that severe cold snap you had experienced. I keep my 'Cezanne' container grown and it's a real bloom machine right into late fall and it doesn't stop even when placed in the coldroom for winter! Terry

Jay, Earlier in the week, I wasn't real concerned about any area of OK except those few NW counties that seemed likely to get snow. I thought it likely the rest of us would have an annoyingly cold night and then we'd "get over it" and get on with our planting chores and such. Then I noticed that as far south as OKC it was going to get pretty cold, and now it seems like it may be really cold and snowy and every update seems to show a little more cold and little more snow. That worries me. None of our animals, domestic or wild, seem to be showing the pre-cold behavior we often see before a severe winter storm arrives, but that could change at any time. A lot of our winter resident birds have headed north and a lot of our migratory birds already have returned from their winter homes further south. One thing I have noticed is that the insect numbers are way, way down.....not nearly as many ladybugs, bees, butterflies, green lacewings or moths as usual by this time in March. The trees also seem slower to wake up this spring. Maybe they know something we don't know. I'm getting tired of the guessing game and would like a little consistency, but suspect that won't happen. By the way, my Ronniger potato order, an impulse buy I'm going to blame on you (lol), arrives today and I hope to get them into the ground before the cold gets here. Dawn

Looks great! Early Summer type of weather is finally starting up here tomorrow. This is what I want my plants to have accomplished by Friday... All the bananas to put out almost an entire leaf My bougainvillea to start getting a little greener My white mandevillea to start climbing My geraniums to start flowering again (all the flowers rotted off because of the endless rain!) My mexican petunias to green up. I definitely have some high expectations, but with the 80s forecasted, I think that my plants can get it done! Jen, Grafted, bareroot grade #1 roses, and the equivalent size own root roses can go straight into the ground where you permanently want them. They're mature enough to adjust wonderfully. With gallon size own root, or any equivalent sized lower grade grafted/bare root, it's a judgement call. With excellent care they often take off growing fine. Liner size roses are very young, sometimes barely 4-6 months old. They are called liner size because of the pot size, usually 3-4" across, long (8"), black plastic pots they are grown in. Now liner size (they're always own root), benefit from being upsized to a two gallon size pot, and pot grown for their first year, winterized in a shed, cold garage, etc., where they will get no winter damage, and planted in ground the following year. I have put just purchased liner size roses directly into the ground their first year, but they need babying. Their first winter is particularly hard on them here even if they put on nice size by season's end. Even with heavy winter protection, and a mild winter, they often experience a good bit of winter die back for me. In your warmer zone than mine you may get away with planting liner size roses directly into the ground, but I usually regret I did so, and you may, too. Moses
