Roselee, the mourning doves are all at my house. (grin). Honestly, I have a large number of them, and none of the others.

Roselee, I was seeing the same thing that you are until about 4 or 5 days ago, but now the white wings have left, and I have had morning doves, Mexican doves, and a pair of ring necked doves at my feeders the last few days. It seems like while the white wings are here the others won't come.

Well, that's good to know. I never hear any of the other doves call either ... only the white wings. I don't feed.

Here's one sitting on top of the rose tower watching my dog Max run around it trying to figure out how to climb it.

I have both, but I'm seeing more and more of the white wings. The mourning doves seem to be holding their own against them tho. I think the MDs are trying their darnedest to hold on to their feeding ground since they were here first.
BTW, I planted a bunch of pigeonberry because I heard that doves like the berries. Haven't seen the doves eating any of them yet. Was this a myth????

I think the problem I had was that when the white wings are here, they are really here! Anywhere from 12 to 18 at a time.

Well, is there no limit to what the power of suggestion can do? I am sitting here typing away, and what do I see fly to one of my feeders? ---- yeah, a whitewing dove. First one I've seen all year.

My neighborhood in Rowlett (a suburb of Dallas) has far more WW Doves than Mourning Doves, but this has happened in only the past 6-8 years. Before that it was all Mourning Doves and no WW Doves. My friends call them Flying Pigs.

There are no restrictions on hunting WW doves, they are an invasive species. You can shoot/trap/hunt them anytime of year in any number. Maybe a nice stewed dove dinner is in the works?

The Inca or little Mexican doves should be starting to migrate about now.
I have all 3 year round here. They seem to take turns at the feeder, first the WW, then the mourning, sometimes the Inca are mixed in with the first 2 & sometimes they flock in all at once. The feeders will be deserted then every bird in Galveston shows up, then they all leave.
How the heck do you NOT feed them & feed the others?

The White Winged Dove is an invasive species? I don't think that's right. I'm also unaware that a Dove season (any dove) extends year round here. Their range has always been in the lower Rio Grande Valley (where we almost decimated them early in the 1900s) and it's only now, with better habitat opportunites, that they're taking over so much new range. House Sparrow and Starlings are invasive, but one can't consider a native species to be so. House Sparrows and Starlings *can* be killed at any time for any reason, but I don't think that applies to a native species like the WW Dove.

We have collared doves, White Wings, mourning doves and Inca doves. We do not feed during the summer to encourage them to forage but do during the Winter months.

We have a LOT of feral cats in the neighborhood because a neighbor feels sorry for them and began to put scraps out for them...those cats are catching doves at my birdbath :(

Texas Parks & Wildlife had an article on the white wings a while back. I thought they were a native species until then. Didn't think that was right but then saw another article in Smithsonian? maybe that said the same thing.

I wish only 12-18 would show up as there can be 30-40 in the backyard at any time. I think all the trees attract more birds.

It was from the TP&W website that I got the information about the White Wings native range and how we almost decimated them. Is it possible that there is a confusion between White Wing Doves and Eurasion Collared Doves? The EC Dove is an invasive species, and will probably soon be over-running all of our feeders.

This website talks about TP&W's 2007 highlights of wildlife research. There is much research going on as relates to the White Wing Dove. They are indeed a native species.

I'm thinking it's the collared doves also. The article was a couple of years back, I didn't save that issue of course. But I remember being very surprised & talking to my husband about it, I was sitting on the porch swing watching all the doves. They don't really look much alike to me but..

When I was a kid I never saw a dove or a pigeon. Now there are millions of doves everywhere. I can't believe that many of them are native, or they would have been here all along.
