Just a guess, but since you're so far south, I think they may have found a place to nest. Have you heard them at all?

I'm not that far south, actually. I have not heard even a peep from them!

I have a birdcam (outdoor camera) and I have watched them feed whenever the bluebirds come to the mealworm feeder. They'd let the blues eat first but they would line up on the feeder's perch.

I have never had this happen, that's why I've noticed their absence. I'll have to go through my videos and see when the last day was that I filmed them. Not that I expect that to give me much info.

We did have two days that it snowed but that's happened here before. Snows one day, melts the next, just the way I like it!

I've had 10 or more CAWR all winter. I have about an acre of land with many places for them to nest. I put out mealworms daily and they were always there.

Why would they ALL leave at the same time???

Could all be out establishing territories, or maybe someone nearby got a new dog or cat. They readily move to a new territory to avoid predators, as I found out when we let our rescue Jack Russell hang out on the front deck. We were deserted by our deck nesters-Robin and Carolina Wren-and now I'm considering locking the gates to the deck to keep the dog off so maybe they'll come back. Maybe if I only let Tupper in the small side yard to chase squirrels away from the spilled seed the birds will start nesting on the deck again?

Hi, I am in Myrtle Beach SC. have been feeding mealworms to my car. wrens for weeks now. left for two days, came back, refilled mealworm cage but today, thursday they have not retuned. they never leave our state, but i was wondering if they would take off from their meal ticket this late in spring? all my other birds are still here. anyone have a clue?:(

Rachel! I love that you are willing to not only let them nest but that your keeping your dogs from bothering them. I am so irritated by those people that dont want a little bird poop on their porch. Those are usually the ones that put poision out on their lawns to make them look pretty and dont care what they are killing!

I had a pair of Carolina Wrens hanging around the early part of the winter, but after a few weeks there was only one - and then none. I couldn't figure out what happened because they've been around here for several years too.

This Spring, while cleaning out the front garden, I found a neat little circle of feathers - Carolina Wren feathers. I think one of the pair got caught by a hawk, and then the poor lonely mate must have moved on.

Thanks Lisa! I feel lonely without the deck nesters, although the Carolina Wrens promptly nested against the air conditioner.

I've been letting Tupper guard the deck and fenced side yard because squirrels, chipmunks and rats were getting into the spilled feeder seed and trying to get into the lidded barrels of horse feed stored on the deck and I want a natural pest solution. I still don't know the solution
