They have returned!!!!

My Blues showed up March 15th. They were met by HOSPs and horrid weather so they left again. We are finally going to stay above freezing and I have disposed of the HOSPs. They are out there chattering up a storm and are starting to box shop again. Lets hope no more HOSPs show up! The Blues can still get a nest built and be on schedule for egg laying. I hope to get a Birthday egg this year (they were to early last year).

Yah Lisa, that is great news. Just hearing them out there must be music to your ears. Keeping fingers crossed for you that the HOSP stay away and you have a fabulous season with your Blues.

Good to hear! Ever since losing the 1st female, the activity is way down. The swallows fled and even though it's near 50 here they seem nowhere to be found.

I also disposed of the HOSP and no others have shown interest in my boxes. Unfortunately, it seems the same way for the blues...they were here every day and now aren't showing up much. With 60's and 70's in the forecast, I hope to see nest building soon. They are behind compared to last year. Nesting in general seems far off from last year. Good luck!

To have an internal circulation duct with a powered fan to take that hot air and put it back down at floor level. It's the only way to even out the temperature.

I am in South Alabama and they come in early spring (mid-February) usually have a few nestings and are gone all of fall and winter. So it's a mystery to me why they don't stay but my friend in the Northern part of the state has them year round?

I can't now, because there are cats on the milkweed, but that's o.k. Soon the milkweed will have no flowers or leaves, so I'm not worried about it. I'm actually looking forward to them being stripped, so I can cut them back and root some more for next year's babies.

Glad they came back. I am awaiting the return of the Blues that showed up here on March 19th only to be driven away by the Winter storm. It has finally warmed up enough for bugs to be out again. The Tree Swallows returned yesterday in numbers already, they too had been back on the 19th but left also. I counted 6 TRES out there flying around. One pair seems to have already claimed a box out back. This particular box is always the first one chosen, must be a good spot according to TRES. Then my Dees seem to have choses a tree again to want to nest in. Saw them excavating a site yesterday, only thing is it is in a bad tree, I think a strong wind will knock it over due to what the woodpeckers did to the base of the tree. I am hoping they quit working on it and chose a nestbox instead.
