Normally relatively quick grower, into a large, weeping mound. 'Aurea Pendula' 'Montrose Veil' 'Karl Fuchs'. A relatively narrow, cold-hardy upright with nice blue needles. 3-4 years old. 'Gold Horizon' 'Raywood's Contorted'. Funky, chaotic growth.

Clement, that a nice and very tight Picea omorika broom. It seems that there are several 'Fuchs' brooms and they all have a number. Which number belongs to this broom? Here is a link that might be useful: brooms

Cheers Edwin, what would we do without you...and yes, the 'Brentmoor B;onde' is a difficult plant, it's very thin branched and leggy, plus it can and does burn some summers and can look a right mess some years, but when it's good. it's outstanding. Dax, There's a bit of confusion with my 'Bor' now, since you posted the link to the Tomszak site, I checked the photo they have of 'Bor' there. Looks completely different to my plant...The strange thing is I cut away a lot of foliage from the base of my plant thinking it was bits of understock, and the foliage I removed looks very much like the foliage from the pic on the Tomszak plant, I had a problem knowing what was what, because I could not clearly see the graft union. Now I'm wondering if what I have left is a witches' broom that was growing in the center of the plant

All this tree-planting is wonderfully encouraging! But if you want to get serious about reforesting your property, then you're just scratching the surface by planting these mostly token specimen trees. If you want to see the fastest and most lush growth, then Mother Nature can do that with a little guidance. She does it with things called pioneer species and secondary succession. You basically need to turn the turf grass into patches of fallen leaves and pine needles that stay undisturbed on the ground all year long. It may sound messy or ugly, but it will explode in lush, native growth within a few years. With a little thinning and pruning, you should be able to guide an assortment of naturally-sprouting tree, shrub, and vine seedlings into a gorgeous patch of woods. It's kind of like "letting things go wild"...but with some guidance and assistance to Mother Nature. You won't read about it in most gardening resources. You'll get better information from forestry experts. It's inexpensive, simple once you get the hang of it, and produces unparalleled results.
