All great, and the elegant, dignified shots are as good as any I've ever seen. But I absolutely love the shots of the waxwings squabbling on the ground, totally destroying their dignified image.

I just got this camera as well and boy is there a lot to learn. What settings were used for these pix? I really have no idea and the book is hard to figure out. I am technically challenged.

These pics. were taken hand held, about 14 feet away, some are further 20 feet with auto setting, about 35x - 50x zoom, no cropping, only the fourth pic. was photo shopped a little, rest of the photos are out of the camera. She prefers no photoshop.
At this time of the year when fruits are fermented, birds get a bit tipsy and you can get pretty close.

Wow - Waxwings are such beautiful birds! Great pics especially for a point & shoot. What are those red berries they are after and what other fruits do you have for them this time of year?

I love to watch birds take baths, and they seem to like the puddles along the roads around here. But I worry that there are salts or other possibly harmful chemicals in the water?

Terrene, your're right about salt etc. and Oil from cars. At that spot my car is parked....glad I changed to a newer vehicle some time ago.

These Bohemian Wawings are very resourceful when in comes to food.
I have seen them eating buds off the trees. On my Linden Tree they were eating the dry seeds. In the park they were eating russian olive seeds/fruit a couple of years ago. Now of course there is allot of crab apples and Mountain Ash, [red berries in picture].

What a great series on the Bohemians! Our compliments to your wife's shooting... #4,5,&6 are outstanding.

We have a flock of Cedar Waxwings here now and are getting some good shots of them, but we never get to see the Bohemians.
