Umm help!

Hello every one my name is Austin. Every year we have a family of blue birds come and make there nest in our BB house on the fence. Well just two days ago we had a disaster. A neighborhood cat came and knocked the whole nest box down, along with 5 eggs. The mother was killed trying to defend her nest. I found her body a good two feet away from the nest. The father on the other hand never returned. The eggs didn't receive any damage what so ever. I took all five eggs and placed them into my bird incubator in case of accidents like this one. The eggs are about 2 days from hatching and when I candled them, I can see a lot of movement. I have raised cockatoos and budgies, but not a wild bird. My question is how do I feed them? do I put the syringe to the left or right of there mouth? what type of syringe do I use? and what type of baby bird food?, or do I feed it crushed insects with vitamin solution? what consistency should the food be?I know this I a lot of questions, but I need to ask them If i want them to survive. Any help appreciated. Oh and anything else you think I need to know, please share.

I would contact a rehabber in your area NOW,before the eggs hatch.They can give you the info you need.I am sending you a private email for a rehabber in my area that should be able to walk you through it.I have used this rehabber in the past,she is willing to take calls from out of state.I would call her BEFORE the eggs hatch.

I think watering would help. That will get your grass growing which will help the glyphosphate do its thing. I had one little green patch that wouldn't die. Then we had two full days of rain here in Michigan and sure enough that little green patch started to fade real fast after the rain.

You need to find some complete Cattleya culture notes for zone 7 . There are two sets of culture notes to be found in thread Cattleya orchid TROUBLE down the page a bit. Do not be put off by the title of that thread, read the contents of the thread and the two sets of notes to give you an idea and proceed from there. I doubt that it would do well in a terrarium because it needs to dry out a bit between waterings. I looked up Liah Her Glory on the Royal Horticultural Society database of orchid names to see what sort of Cattleya you have and did not find anything... Anyway, for $2 give it a go and try to get the orchid through to spring then maybe you can summer it outside.. Read all the stuff and then come back here if you have further questions.

I don't know if this will be much help, but Jim Duffy (Refining Fire Chiles) says when they start setting flowers start feeding with a Bloom Booster, that it especially works well with the Bhuts. I've moved mine into the sunroom. With the temps in the triple digits or close to, for the last 4wks it's killing my peppers, I've moved all my super hots and habs inside. They seem MUCH happier.

That can raise issues- I work in a hospital- I call my patients in as Mary Smith, or sometimes Mr. or Mrs. Smith. I could really butcher some of the names- had Mr. and Mrs. Fuchs a few years ago, they did not speak ANY English, and nobody wanted to be the ones to call them back! There were about 6 other people in waiting room.... I would rather be called by my first name by anybody, including children's friends- (Joe's mom does get my attention if they are uncomfortable with it.) This is out of respect to my DMIL who passed 34 yrs ago. Just can't be called by her name.... I will still be Pam when I'm 90 in the nursing home.... I would like to remember to ask people how they would like to be addressed, but I can't seem to remember to do that... I have been called PammieJo, Pookie, Ladybug,and Pamster.(?)by other hospital employees/Drs. I have learned not to be offended. I was suspended from HS for telling the principal to call me by my name, not young lady. He persisted in calling me that, and I returned with an "Old Man" He didn't like it. I gladly went home..... PS I was just called Darlin' as I type by a stranger at the window.....

Austin. I know you are trying to help but I'm afraid it will not work out the way you hope it will. In my experience rehabbers won't even take babies unless they can feed themselves. After they hatch the babies don't even eat the first day or so. The parents feed the babies soft insects the next few days and many other foods as Bluebirds have a varied diet. It is my understanding that the mother bird needs to inoculate the babies gut with some sort of bacteria which you or even a rehabber does not have. It is very time consuming and difficult to raise them on your own not to mention illegal. Even if you were successful raising them you can't simply release them because they will not be able to hunt on their own and they will starve to death. The parents teach them this and how to avoid climbing predators like snakes, squirrels, coons and cats. Boxes should never be put on fences or trees for this reason. They should be on a slick metal pole with a baffle on it. I feel terrible for you. I have lost Blues in the past to house sparrows. We all find things out the hard way. Sadly, you've heard that the eggs don't have much chance. Even sadder, Mama Bluebird won't be making any more.
Now, what shall we do about the cat? OR
What shall we do to protect the nestbox from that cat, or another cat, or other predators?
Surely, something must be done to prevent another disaster.
