You could candle the remaining eggs. Or you could just wait and see. Five more days isn't that long to wait, but it is too soon to hear tapping or chirping. I don't know how many eggs you set, but if she had too many she may have rolled out the ones she thought were infertile. It does sound as though at least one egg spoiled (going by empty shell and bad smell) and it may have contaminated the others, but this late on I would hesitate to discard any unless they are cracked, oozing or stinky. Sorry, this isn;t much help, I know... but I would just wait and see.

isnt it fun! I found some eggs and hid them beneath a conch shell. The grandson would be here any minute and I wanted him to find them. We played in the garden and he lifted the conch and squealed. Carefully he picked up the tiny egg and began to talk to it.He carried it around the yard while he walked and all of a sudden he shrieked. The baby popped out! What??? I grabbed his tiny had and sure enough their was the baby! perfect timingfor him to see this miracle! Maybe the warmth of his hand or maybe he just willed it out! Here he is in a jar on my couch next to his deflated egg. We later placed him back outside to find his family. I hope grandmas house is the funnest!

Relax. Egg cleaning and inspecting procedures implemented in the 1970s mean it is highly unlikely salmonella will be present on the outside of eggs if you are buying them from a reputable source (as opposed to raising your own chickens). So you would only have to worry about salmonella that has penetrated the egg shell, and that only happens in about 1 egg out of every 10,000. Cooking would of course kill any salmonella, and bacteria hate acid conditions so the vinegar is another safety mechanism. In the extremely unlikely situation that any salmonella is present and has survived all this, plants don't take up bacteria from the soil, so unless you were pouring the water directly on the fruits and then harvesting them right away, your chances are now about infintity to 1 against having salmonella contamination.

Thanks for response eteinne. This was several dozen eggs so not enough salt to cover this mess LOL! Really was not hard to get the slimy egg cleaned off. I scrubbed with soap and water and then a second time actually using a clothes wash my husband has to remove smells from clothes when hunting. Left the door open and fans running overnight. DH said this afternoon he didn't smell anything. Just to be sure I wiped with with a bleach solution today and will let dry overnight before putting everything back in. Since I needed to clean under the trailer fridge I had to unbolt and move the refrigerator. Was a little tough getting it unbolted and moving the fridge myself especially with so little space. At least now the walls and floor under the refrigerator are sparkling clean again. If all smells good tomorrow I'll move the refrigerator back and bolt it down again.
