we don't get the pileated woodpeckers here but when i lived down south i saw them eating most often on the suet logs. most were homemade small diameter logs or thick branches cut maybe 1 foot to 2 foot long with holes drilled in them and stuffed with peanut butter suet mix
and hung up out in the yard. maybe it seemed more natural to them?

I get them at the feeders quite often. Hang out some suet. Even those little suet cages will do.Just posted a pic I took today of one on the ground picking up suet bits that had fallen.

I have some, but have never, in 15-20 yr, seen one come to the feeders.

I have some here in my NW GA woods, but have never had them come to the feeders.

Took these today. The male has the red cheek the female black Time for more suet. They eat a lot!!

I have a pair that comes to my feeders all the time, and I live in the suburbs. Put up a suet log and they'll soon be visiting.

WOW!!!!!! I used to have Pileateds all around the house in Kentucky but none came to the hanging feeder
