Hello, I need help. I put up my BB box a month ago. Well the little Chickadees took it over and made a nest. I have not seen any activity in over a week. Saw a BB at it last week. What do I need to do. Could the Chickadees already have laid and hatched? If the nest is empty, remove it and hope the BB come back?

Hi go check the box for eggs. Dees are sneaky little birds and zoom in and out of the box in a jiffy. If there are eggs put on a hole reducer. Put up a second box for the Blues, you are so lucky to have both! www.sialis.org gives nesting timetables for both the Blues and the Dees, also check to be sure your boxes are mounted properly so your birds are safe. Thank you. I think they are adorable little birds. I am planning on getting a chickadee box also.

I agree what a beautiful kitchen.. I think Jeanne is right, a Black Wire Basket.. would look good. You could use a really large sized one up there and propped up (I've used wood blocks that are not seen) to elevate the basket and give it more height. It's kind of lost up there. I've even taken a basket and tilted it forward (propped up from the back) to bring it's contents into view. I think what Punk means is to move the Prints down to the other side - left of the basket and put them together...JMO I'd love to see the end results.. Hi Jason: It is a good idea to lead questions with your climate zone or location at this forum. Roof looks great with your brick! I'd follow suit with the windows and get windows with no grids that have bronze frames. (picture below just for frame color reference). For your door I think you could save your door if you're able to replace the ornamental glass insert with a simple one and paint it a bold color that compliments your brick. Otherwise a new mildly contemporary door with cutouts. Definitely remove the teal planters as their tone does not go with your brick. Some simple landscaping with perennials and shrubs underneath the windows would be very pretty. Where is the street in relation to the front of the house?

The rug should be big enough to slip under the front 1/3 - 1/2 of the sectional and extend past the right and left ends of it by a foot or more. Use blue painter's tape on the floor to tape that out, then measure and buy a rug in the closest size to what your taped rug measures.

I agree with lisa. Put up another box for the Blues. My Carolina Chickadees initially go about putting bits of green moss into each box that is a potential home. Once they decide upon "the one" they work diligently to complete a full nest inside. After that nest is completed, it is still awhile before they lay their eggs inside it. You may not see them at the box, but if they have completed a full nest, my hunch is that they intend to lay in it. I suppose that there have been times when Blues have built on top of a Chickadee nest. I would leave it up to them to work it out. If the Chickadees allow the Blues to snag the box, then they will build elsewhere. JMHO. HTH.~~Angie
