Pride of barbados propagation?

If it broke at an intersection, and you got a 'heel' on your cutting, very good. Don't cut it off. Trim the cutting from the top, leaving a couple of nodes to stick in the medium, and a couple of nodes above the surface. Leave a couple of leaves on. Make sure the medium is moist, and don't let it dry out, not even once. If it broke in the middle of a limb, trim it to about 1/4" below a node of semi ripe wood. That would be where the limb is more wood like, as opposed to the green, limber stuff at the tip of the branch. In either case, dip the bottom nodes in some rooting hormone, make a hole in the moist medium, stick the cutting in up past the second node, and pull the medium up around the cutting nice and snug. Water to settle soil, and get the air out. Set it in a shady spot, maybe in the drip line of your house or a shed. That way, condensation will drip from the roof, and keep it nicely watered. In any case, good luck! Ane let us know what happens. Janie...See MoreAnyone rooted Pride of Barbados?
Comments (12)According to this website, http://www.tropilab.com/caesal-pul.html , Pride of Barbados a.k.a. Bird of Paradise can be propagated by cuttings although it doesn't give more info. than that. It's my understanding, however, that it's not best to plant young Pride of Barbados in the fall because they don't have the root system established to support them through the winter if their top foliage is cut down by a freeze. I currently have eight baby Pride of Barbados grown from seeds collected by my mother some 6-7 years ago. I obviously didn't plant the seeds right away so was happily surprised so many of them germinated after such a long time. I plan to overwinter mine in a greenhouse and will plant them in the yard in the spring. You are welcome to one of mine if your cuttings aren't successful....See MoreHave caesalpinia pulcherrima (Pride of Barbados/ Red Bird of Paradise)

It seems every flower turns to multiple pods after it dies. Is this normal? I'm overloaded. One popped while I was passing by and it scared the bejeezus out of me. They are the standard reddish/orange. Really beautiful....See MorePride of Barbados seeds needed
