Saving Seed

I wanted to ask: Could using one of those machines that will vacuum the air out of a food-grade plastic bag and seal it be helpful if I am planning on storing seeds for an extended time?

My thought was, after fermentation and drying, to place individual varieties in paper envelopes and then put several of the envelopes in a vacuum bag (based on year) to store them. Or put individual variies into it their own sealed vacuum bag. I am leaning toward a single variety in it's own vacuum bag because then I would not disturb the seeds of a variety that I was not gong to plant that year.

I can't imagine storing the seeds in a low oxygen environment could do any harm, whether they were placed in the freezer or not. To me taking out so much of the air would be a good thing. However, as this is the first time saving seed I will defer to those who are the real experts on the subject of saving seed.

I only have about 20 different varieties, so space is not a problem. What do seed savers think?
