I have spent the week slaying miles and miles (and miles!) of oriental (majorly invasive) bittersweet in a woodland setting. There is no easy way to get this stuff back out of the wood as the wood is densely packed with spicebushes (Lindera benzoin) and when I try to drag it out I end up breaking branches off the spicies. So my question is: Can I leave the chopped up bittersweet in situ to rot? It is loaded w/green berries which I assume indicate immaturity so I don't think birds will eat 'em but are they potentially viable? I.e., do I need to gather up every single berry to ensure that they don't germinate ?!
