That looks a lot like Black Cherry. Are the leaves slightly greener and bigger than other tomatoes and very vigorous looking?
Although, it's more likely to be a cross. Also, there must be other cherries that look like that as well, I can't say I tried them all :P.

It might not be a cross, it could be the result of seeds, tags or plants getting mixed at seed saving, planting, or transplanting.

I have one right now. I only had two plants of one come up from seeds (only planted 3 seeds). I try to be very careful, only handle one kind of seed at a time, get out one variety of plant from the starting tray, lable some markers with the name, then transplant. But when I got ready to plant out, I found I THREE of them, so one's a mystery. I probably got interrupted when making tags and made an extra and used it. Hopefully one is not a bi-color so I know it's the stray. So far I can't tell any difference. *sigh*

I doubt this was a result of a seed mix-up. All the cherry seeds I have seen are tiny compared to regular tomato seeds. And the Goose Creek seeds I had were really fat and healthy looking, and I had many of them so I chose the biggest of them to plant. My seed source says he was not growing cherries last year when he saved the GC seed, and that he did not bag the blossoms. And I did not plant any cherries this year, did not even have any cherry seed in the house.

If they are tasty, are there any volunteers out there to grow out the second generation next year?

A bit of Detective work. If you remember your Goose Creek seed source, you may want to contact that person to pose the question of a seed mixup. Reason I mention that is because I've sent out a lot of Goose Creek seeds over the past 2 years, and I've NEVER grown cherry tomatoes - don't care for them. So if seeds came from me, then one can eliminate that possibility. (Watch for an episode on CSI coming soon...)

I did contact my source and he was not growing cherries last year.

If is it not a mixup (no cherry seeds in the house) and not a cross (no cherries grown within a quarter mile when seeds were saved) then you may have a mutation. I say may because when I look closely at both pictures, I see a similarity between the trusses. Both of them have alternating fruit/blossom stems and then a section where they are only on one side of the stem like some may not have grown or matured. It looks like the top one has places were 5 or 6 fruit or blossoms and the bottom one has 8 but the contrasty shadows on the first one make seeing it a bit difficult.

I have actually seen what was listed as a picture of a Goose Creek that had a lot of blossoms, perhaps as many as 8, on a single truss. I can't seem to find that photo right now, but check out the third photo in the thread linked below. Which was a question about the real goosecreek tomato: Some places it is listed as red and small and others as large and pink. Even Jimmy Williams' (who attempted to patent it) description of it seemed to change over time.

I have seeds from two different sources, one was listed as a red slicer and the other as a pink beefsteak. I had planned to comparison grow them this year, but had way too many I had not already grown or that I needed to save fresh seeds on. Since I was limiting my growouts to 75 varieties this year (which actually turned out to be closer to 85) GC was one that went on the back burner.

The upshot of the deal is, I think your bottom pic may just be smaller goosecreeks that will get to be the size of the top one. But if that doesn't happen, I am sure that there will be lots of people willing to try your "Goosecreek Cherry," myself included!

BTW, I have seen some tiny seeds from big fruits, and vice versa.

FWIW, these kinds of accidents can be serendipitous sometimes! Camo's Cowlick Brandywine came into existence in this way. Or at least he grew the plant out to discover that it wasn't quite like the other Brandywines he'd received!

Anyway, I hope the unexpected smaller mater tastes really good. Maybe it will be a prize-winner! The other one looks like the Goose Creeks I've been growing.

First "Cherry Creek" ripened and I had it today.

IT SUCKED.

Total spitter. But by this point I expected this because someone on T'ville had the same experience with planting GC and getting cherry tomatoes, and he reported bad taste.

Of course, it's a beautiful healthy plant with lots of fruit and I will probably end up pulling it. Why can't the hornworms like Cherry Creek?

I can also report that the seeds inside were way bigger and more numerous than most cherry tomatoes I've seen.

I verified that the T'ville guy and I did not have the same source. Now I am wondering if GC is stable? Any opinions out there?
