I am sorry, but I do not have a clue what to say that will help you. Or that your plants need any help at all as I am not familiar with the variety you have there. For all I know that is normal for the kind you have.

But what I really wanted to say was this: Has anyone noticed how so many pics that are taken of Toms how the camera tends to see right through the entire plant and focus on something in the background? I mean it happens all the time. There was another thread where someone posted a bunch of pics and I was looking at very nice views of fences clear across the yard, or the lattice on a a stairwell halfway across the yard. All the pics were litterally going through the plant. It has to do with the autofocus, I am sure, and I am not making any derogatory comments about your photo dak56, goodness knows I would probobly be doing the exact same thing with my pics. It is just so odd how often the camera's autofocus can go throgh all that foliage and fixate on some object behind it and bring it into cristal clear focus, all while leaving the foreground fuzzy. In dak's pic the stem and foliage behind the tomatoes are clear but the tomatoes are fuzzy. I know if it was me I would be having the same problem. I am certainly not making any comments about your photographic skills.

Something is wrong there, but I don't know what it is (physiological problem, weird micronutrient deficiency, thrip damage to the flower bud?). Rowdy Red is one of the prettiest tomatoes around, similar to an on-the-vine supermarket cluster tomato. It should be round with a pointed end. I suspect that (if the problem is insect related) some of the later fruits (on different trusses)will be fine.

The focal problem has to do with autofocus searching out high contrast edges. A real problem with closeups. You have to focus on something, lock the focus, and then move over to the tomato masking sure that it is the same distance away from what you focused on, all the while holding the focus lock. then take several pictures moving the camera towards or away from the tomato slightly for each shot to bracket. Its easy once you figure out how to do it. Or you can use the manual focus feature

I will have to try your technique, spiced ham. I seem to have that problem more when it's a bright day out & the sun is directly behind me. Hopefully, the rest of the tomatoes on the plant will look different.

No offense taken, Tom. I do not profess to be any kind of professional photographer. My husband says I need a special polarizing tomato filter, LOL.
