Spiders and a few other indoor plants are susceptible to brown tips, with that said, brown tips could be happening for a few reasons, light is wrong, hard water use, too little water, too much water, also, too much fertilizer can all burn the tips. Only feed lightly, or half strength or less in the spring and summer months now and then, none in winter when many plant slow down their growth. Low humidity can also play a part or a combination of ones I already mentioned. To minimize brown tips, make sure the pot is just an inch more around than the entire root-ball and water well (thoroughly) when the soil has had a chance to dry out first. Get rid of any water in the saucer. Giveve them bright indirect light. As far as the ones wrinkling, not sure why that is, they may just start to brown like the others. You might want to check for any kind of pest just in case. Billy Rae

Last fall I built a couple of raised beds in front of my house in which I placed ten Japanese Holly shrubs. I built the retaining walls of the beds with concrete blocks on a concrete foundation. I filled the beds with screened topsoil brought in from a local (Raleigh, NC) supplier. The holly plants seemed to be doing very well until a few weeks ago when I noticed the leaves on one of the shrubs were turning brown and curling. This symptom is now becoming apparent on shrubs adjacent to the worst affected plant. The bed that contains the sick plants is pretty shallow and therefore, of my two beds, is probably the most affected by lime leached from the new concrete and mortar from the bed walls. I will try the acid and iron treatment recommended in earlier postings. I intend to post results of the treatment in a future posting.

jean001, thanks for your response. The pics shown are about mid-way through the plant, but all of the leaves, from top to bottom, seem to be consistent in appearance. Overall, the plant looks healthy and has been growing really well, exceeding the same plants in other parts of the gardens. There are no discolorations on the stems. Blooms are normal and not disfigured. Strangely, none of these leaves has turned brown or died yet either. I was trying to id via comparison photos on the web and could only identify magnesium deficiency as somewhat similar. Also we have had a LOT of rain...over 10-inches since June 1st and I wondered if the epsom salts leached away? Of course I am just guessing and don't really have a clue. mine actually do the same thing. i thought mine was from not having enough water but, i guess not. im no expert at all, wish i could give you a better answer. i can tell you mine went down to 0C I(32F) the other day with no problems at all, and they are pretty small like yours, just a few inches tall. you might want to give it a larger pot though.
