Three cheers for Gilmour Hose End Sprayer!

I've used a Gilmour hose end sprayer for numerous purposes for years and years! I find it much easier to use than lugging around a pump up sprayer and it lasts much longer. I bought several extra container jars to use with different products I sprayed such as sea weed, fish emulsion, fertilizers, etc.

The box says 'Lifetime Replacement Policy" so when the plastic pick up tube broke I emailed the Gilmour-Customer-Service-Department for a replacement of the tube. Lo and behold -- they sent me a whole new sprayer! Yay! Three cheers for Gilmour.

Incidently, after using I spray WD40 into brass nozel to keep the adjustments working freely.

Thanks for that info. I hadn't seen this one before, although I've used other hose-end sprayers.
Do you use the same source for purchasing just the jars?

Don't ya just love it when a company stands by their product? It's become so rare that when it does happen it inspires a celebration!
I've felt that way recently too, although unrelated to gardening products. My kitten destroyed the wires on my new Altec Lansing speakers I got for my computer. I called them expecting to pay for replacements and they sent them free of charge! Maybe it was my genuine appreciation for their product that created the goodwill (very good quality sound for a low end product) or perhaps that's just standard practice for them. Same with Calphalon pots and pans. They'll replace something (and even send an improved and more expensive replacement) with no questions asked. Such a nice feeling and creates loyalty.

Yes, one doesn't mind paying for good quality! Some of the stuff you get nowadays are just poor facsimiles it seems. They look like the real thing, but don't do the job. And good guarantees are just the icing on the cake.

I purchased the Gilmour hose end sprayer at Lockhill Feed Store and they had the extra containers available there also. Regular bottle caps fit to cover the contents. I haven't checked lately to see if they still carry them, but they are very good about ordering anything in their realm of activity.

Okay, while no one was looking *smirk*, I did some quick research and found three types of products that might be good, I might get all three for different purposes. One is the Gilmour Air-o-matic hose end sprayer, adjustable dial for dilutions (16 different kinds, from one to ten tsp per gallon) and a hose sprayer squeeze handle at the end. I'm not sure how much it holds but it seems pretty good. Internet searches turn up with several different kinds ranging from 15-25 dollars. Then there are those generic spray air pumps you get at your local gardening or hardware store. And there are also "syphonex" applicators that go directly between the faucet and hose and apply the liquid to the water stream as it flows. Perhaps I might use the former for teas that can't come in contact with chlorinated water or smaller weeding applications, and the latter for larger applications like with fertilizer mixes. Feel free to add anything!

No, it's not the water pressure. Hose end sprayers are meant for spraying an entire yard and have no finesse in them. Dilution is chancy, and you can't control the spray pattern or width. I use them only for spraying lawns or up into trees where I need to take advantage of the city's water pressure to get 20ft up into a tree. Like everything else these days, sprayers are made cheaply and not intended to last or be fixed. But loss of pressure holding ability can often be fixed with vaseline applied to the gaskets on the pump. Gaskets dry out and leak until greased. Hudson sprayers should come with instructions on how to grease the gaskets. There's the obvious O ring where the cylinder threads onto the sprayer, and then there's another one inside the pump. We use Solo backpack sprayers at work, but that's too much for my little garden, so at home I use a half gallon sprayer from the local hardware store. Two, actually, one for herbicides, one for the roses. Always use a separate sprayer for herbicides. Both are on their third season now with no issues, so I got my money's worth out of them.

Now a contrary word from the Queen of Spray.... The Gilmour brand hose end sprayer with meter dial is an excellent and reasonably precise, accurate sprayer. It costs about $20 and you can often find them at hardware stores, as well as online. Use the spray stream diffuser to achieve a fine spray. It's not as fine as a mist. The Gilmour is powerful and you can spray 100 roses in less than 10 minutes. For spraying Daconil or wettable powders such as Manzate, I follow the sprayer directions for "pre-mixing" the chemicals. It also helps to use a surfactant in the mix to aid in a more even application of the spray. Be careful with that Daconil. It has a tendency to cause leaf burn, especially in hot weather. I've used the Gilmour for the past 8 years. I use it for gardens large and small. It's my go-to sprayer. It's an extremely versatile tool. How do I use a powder with hose end sprayer?

You can't- I have a backpack sprayer I paid $175 for that is designed to spray "wettable powders" it's a SPO msde by SP-Syetems (name brand) sprayer. I use it for my apple/pear orchard. It has a grinder/agitator in it to allow the powder to mix and be sprayed. 150psi. It sells for about $200 now You need to buy luquid chemicals, not powders

Had a similar experience. Broken nozzle was 'fixed' by
sending me a whole new unit!

Don't buy extra bottles. I've discovered that a 2 liter
soda bottle will fit the sprayer. Just get a longer
pickup tube. Twelve inches is just right. Cost - $.17.
Yes, that's seventeen cents.

And you don't have to refill the 16 oz Gilmour bottle so often.
Two liters (64 oz)is a lot of whatever you'r spraying.

I have a Gilmour pump sprayer, and had the same results you did when I had a problem. They are a great company, stand by their product, which is hard to come by!
