Has anyone grown these 'maters?

Hi everyone! I was wondering if anybody has an opinion about the following tomato varieties. Do they produce well? Did you enjoy the taste?

Isis Candy

Large Red Cherry

Tommy Toes

Delicious

Marion

Phenomenal

Supersteak

Chico III

I've grown Large Red Cherry a few times. I missed it this year, and plan on growing a couple next year. The fruit has a little more tang than the very sweet ones I'm harvesting, and sometimes that's a good thing. And it is significantly larger. I believe it is also common in grocery stores, though someone else may know better. The plants are vigorous, hard to contain, and very productive. I like all those traits.

IÂve grown Isis Candy for several years and it performs well in my Northern VA garden. "vigorous vine" and strong production are apt descriptions of its growth habit. It is very pretty, mild & sweet and a favorite with kids. IÂve read some have trouble determining when it is ripe but I wait till all hint of green tint is gone and that works for me.

Impressive size and "hefty" feeling squashes. Unlike most C. moschata varieties, the skin isn't uniformly buff colored at harvest, but dark green striped with buff/tan. I had them last year, it's a good variety, very productive. Frankly, I think pretty much ANY C. moschata variety I've ever tried tastes about the same -- sweet, smooth, rich, deep orange color, etc. Doesn't seem to matter, from the smallest butternuts to the biggest argonauts and even the round 'Long Island Cheese' types, they all seem to taste about the same to me, by far the best eating quality of any squash, IMO. If halves are too big to go into your oven, cut each half in half. Once, I grew a tremendously massive Warted Blue Hubbard that was so hard, I couldn't cut it with a knife, and so big there was absolutely no possibility of getting it into the oven whole, and I wanted to cook it on Thanksgiving. I finally wrapped it in a couple of garbage bags, took it out onto my front porch, and tossed it up into the air so that it would crash down on my concrete driveway and smash into pieces small enough to handle. It took a couple of squash flings, but I finally got it broken into pieces small enough to fit into my roasting pans. Dennis SE Michigan

Has anyone grown Pearly Pink or Siletz?

I have a very different growing season, but I also did not like Siletz at all. I've never grown Pearly Pink. My favorite early is Bloody Butcher, but it does not like heat. I tandem plant my BBs with a later tomato and pull them up when it gets too hot. This system works out really really well. You might also want to try Mortgage Lifter. It's not technically an early, but the huge tomatoes ripened soon after my cherry tomatoes. Lifter also doesn't mind the heat we have here so might have a shot there. Cosmonaut Volkov is also a great early tomato. Not as early as others, but it has a great flavor. I think it likes it pretty cold though. You should really grow Paul Robeson. That's a tomato that makes me wish I lived in your area, during the cold the flavor is bland, but when it's hot, wow! It loves the heat, but you need to keep it well watered with good drainage. FYI, one of my greatest disappointments in the garden was from Red Zebra. It was mealy and bland and took forever to ripen. I was so looking forward to it because of Green Zebra, which is one of my favorites. But, climate is a big player in flavor, so it might not be terrible in your garden. Good luck!

True determinates don't necessarily set fruit then wither and die. It all depends on care, container size, nutrient availablity, and the weather, how stressed they get. Many determinate varieties will produce a smaller second crop. But it is smaller and often lesser quality so many don't consider it worth the effort. Especially when they can so easily be replaced if your season allows. It has been many years since I grew Tom but as I recall its initial flush of fruit is so heavy and its typical container so small that unless it is really babied the rest of the season wasn't worth much. Not necessarily, Rifis, but combating them is. Those nooks and crannies in the leaves seem ideal habitat to mites. Still, the growing of pristine specimens of hybrid rugosas is a possibility almost everywhere if strategies outside the box are used. Since foliar spraying is not an option, conventional nor organic, a systemic that's always in the h. rugosa's entire system, taken up through its roots makes the most sense to me. The Bayer systemic granules that combat fungi, mites, and insects all in one, seems to be headed in the right direction. However, the management of this system has issues galore. One of them is how much per bush. Does the amount of annual rainfall or supplemental watering effect the killing/preventive strength? How about temperature? Aphids revel in cool weather, mites in hot. Does one need to apply heavier in cool weather to achieve results, or is a heavier warm weather application needed? Then there' the mulch most rose lovers apply in their beds. Moving it aside and replacing it after granules are applied is horrendously difficult work, and once replaced, if that's possible, the watering needs are diminished considerably so granules dissolve slowly and roots have a hard time up taking while the bush is growing vigorously so a diluted strength is the result. Isis Candy, pretty decent taste but not my top choice for a cherry

Large Red Cherry, again, pretty good taste but not one of my top choices for a red cherry

Tommy Toes, don't like the taste at all, tastes funky to me

Delicious , scads of varieties I'd pick over this variety for taste for a red beefsteak

Marion, an earlier commercial variety that has a more tomatoey taste along with Valiant, New Yorker and Ruters, for instance

Phenomenal , haven't grown

Supersteak, haven't grown

Chico III , haven't grown

I have grown Supersteak for decades and I have now replace it with Big Zac because Big Zac is better in every respect that I have noticed.
