I would say too late for a big fruit variety, but a cherry type might give you some fruit in the early Summer. You could leave it in the ground and get some tomatoes in the Fall also.

The most abundant crop off any ONE tomato was a volunteer (small variety) that I put is the raised bed in June of last year. That one plant produced more tomatoes in the fall than we were able to use and I picked about 3 gallons that I spread out in the pool kitchen to eat during the winter. Worked out very well for me, so I would say, go for it !!!!!!!

I agree with the above advice ~ it's really too late for a large variety since just about the time they start blooming, it'll be so hot that the blooms won't set (over 95 and the pollen is damaged so that it won't fertilize the bloom). Cherry tomatoes and currant tomatoes such as Matt's Wild Cherry and Texas Wild aren't as susceptible to this, maybe because they're more closely related to their wild cousins, so are hardier?

Are you sure that spot's not crying out for okra or another pepper plant? Those love the heat, so might work better.

Thank you all so much for your feedback! I couldn't help myself . . . yesterday I saw a few tomato plants left at my favorite nursery. I bought one--before I read the "small tomato" suggestions above. I came home with a "Super Fantastic". Anyone grown this hybrid before?

I have already planted so many okra seeds and pepper plants, I'll be feeding the nieghborhood :) I did however decide I have 2 empty spots instead of one, so I bought some Malabar Spinach too . . . in case the tomato plan fails. I've never grown before but I hear it will replace cold weather spinach for the summer? Its a beautiful vine.
