Foliar funguses are not that common in our hot dry climate. Definitely possible...septoria, alternaria etc but generally they are limited to greenhouse production and the monsoon months because of the high humidity and lack of airflow. Early blight is caused by a fungal pathogen NOT a bacteria. If your peas are showing signs, it could be bacterial blight, not early blight. Most likely what you're seeing is as a result of the crazy weather fluctuations we've been having. Peas especially will be subject to the heat so what you're seeing could just be them drying out? After the week of 100 degree heat and then the drop to 36 degrees with rain (at my house at least), my tomatoes showed signs of environmental stress....Some yellowing, some brownish spots that looked almost like a magnifying glass had been held over the leaf, and drying out and crisping of some leaves. They are totally fine now. Before you rush to chemical measures like Daconil, I would be absolutely sure you have a fungus problem. PamperedChef, I saw your posts in the tomato forum and I agree with the other replies...it definitely looks like the later stages of weed killer damage. Coupled with the weather fluctuations, you've got some pretty sick plants but it doesn't look like a disease. Bad news is, they're very susceptible to everything now. I would remove the dead leaves and give them a nitrogen boost. MisterGin, that looks very similar to what happened with my tomatoes. I wouldn't worry about it unless you start to see your plants deteriorate. Your garden's looking great!

Symptoms like these -- leaf yellowing and browning on the tip -- are very general stress symptoms. It tells you very little about the root cause. It could be a nutritional problem, either too little or too much of something. It could indicate a root problem, overwatering, low humidity (OK, maybe not in Brazil), or salt buildup in the soil. You will have to do some investigating to see what the problem is. A soil test isn't a bad idea. Make sure the pH is within an acceptable range. Measure total salts, usually measured as electrical conductivity to make sure that isn't too high. You might dig up a plant and see if the roots appear healthy. In this case, I don't think the photos tell you a lot.

So its definitely a fungus? I noticed today that the yellow leaves have taken over a large part of the middle plant. What percentage of the leaves can I tear off and not damage the plant or the fruit (it has begun setting fruit)? Is Daconil better than the Ortho brand garden fungus spray? Do they carry it at Home Depot? ******* Ortho Garden Disease Control is Daconil ( chlorothalonil) and if you do get it you want the 29% active ingredient one b'c different concentrations are sold. There are other brands as well but always get the ones with 29% Daconil before dilution. I looked at the pictures carefully, especially the last two, and I'm not entirely convinced that it's fungal in nature. It could be Bacterial Spot. I think part of the problem is lighting and photos since sometimes the spots look black and other times brown and some are kinda blurry. If I were you I'd Google the four major foliage pathogens which are: Early Blight (A.solani) Septoria Leaf Spot Bacterial Spot Bacterial Speck .....and see if you can match up some pictures. You can also go to Google, select IMAGES, and individually enter those diseases with the word tomato also includeed. If it's bacterial then Daconil is of no use and you have to use a copper containing product such as Kocide or similar. Carolyn

I know 6 years later and I'm buzzing in. Well, this just happened to my tomatoes and I'm no gardening pro! But, I saw some tiny poop that had me wondering who it belonged too. I thought maybe my tomatoes were getting too much sun and thats why its was turning colors but I did some googling. I found out, I had a Catapillar living and eating my plant! I sat down and stared at my tomato plant wondering if I would find this mystery Catapillar and then all the sudden right in front of my face there he was, about the size of my finger, but blended in so perfectly to look like a leaf. Well, upon looking at your photos I think I found his cousin hanging out in your photo!! The close up was the one in my garden. So you can see it better. It's a tomato horn... Yours may be in a different family. But it's a catipiller!
