Wild Grape Vine

Help!!!

My neighbor has overgrown lilacs and now an awful wild grape vine has started to grow in the lilacs. They have cling on tendrils. How do I get rid of these giant weeds.

I have the same problem - maybe our neighbors are related? I cut the blasted vine when it comes over into my yard (or even approaches my yard), and the closer I can get to the ground when I cut it, the happier I am. It's rooted in her yard, and she doesn't seem to care, so there isn't a heck of a lot I can do. I do look for the seedlings whenever I'm out and about in the yard, as I certainly don't want a full-blown vine in my yard. Very frustrating, when your neighbor does nothing. The neighbor behind us has a thicket of pokeweed that is about 15 feet wide and over 6 feet tall: happy birds, unhappy me. Ah well.

Reaching in an cutting the vine as close to the source as possible is the best way to control it.

We have one, too. I personally really like the greenery it adds to our property that has no trees. However, the original root of this thing came up directly under/behind our Central AC unit at the back corner of the house. We can't get in there to dig to dig or cut, but I will try the 2,4D and/or the Brush Be Gone. It is pretty close to my ornamental grass garden, so I will have to watch that drift. Thanks. As long as they aren't poisonous I'll let a few mature this season. Even if I don't like them maybe my sugar gliders will. They'll eat some of my edible passion fruit varieties that I find completely unpalatable.

You could try covering part of a runner with dirt and after a while, couple weeks or so cutt it loose from the original vine but leave it in the ground where it is and see what happens. If is fox grapes they do not very well in direct sun they do well in part sun/part shade

first you need to get an ID ... and i dont know how to do that with grape.. maybe the fruit forum peeps can help ... if we cant.. and then once you ID it.. you find out the best time of year to propagate it ... which might not be the middle of summer ... and before you do all that.. you decide if a wild grape is worthwhile to grow.. perhaps mail ordering a prime cultivar.. for under $20 bucks.. might be a much better alternative.. to getting actual usable grapes.. even if it is one of the ones you name ... ken
