Your garden is beautiful. Let's hope my thoughts are wrong. But if I'm correct that it is contaminated straw and/or manure, some veggies will be fine in spite of it. (The WSU info tells which ones.) Further, if it is contaminated straw and/or manure, you now know what to do before using it. 1. Ask if the herbicides in the articles were used on the straw. 2. If any of them were used,either obtain straw/manure from elsewhere (after asking the same question) or compost as suggested in the articles the year previous to using it. 3. And if you end up composting it for the year as directed, do the bio-assay before putting in susceptible plants and/or using in lasagne bed.

Purpling indicates things other than phosphorus deficiency. In this instance, the accompanying dried (tan-colored ) cells indicates a water shortage in the top of the plant. As suggested earlier, that can have multiple origins.

Hi everyone! This is my first year growing tomatoes in the ground, and am having some trouble with them. We have 4 plants only (wanted to start small), 2 of 2 different varieties. I've been searching and researching already the Problem Solver and other websites through google, and still IÂm unable to identify with certainty what's going on. Case One: one of the plants started to show brown spots on one side, mostly on bottom leaves. Here is a small piece, pictured: Underside: Top: Left the main stem in the ground with two apparently healthy suckers on it, and disposed of the rest of the plant. ------ The other variety, started also to show very once in a while some very light brown colored spots, but these are getting more and more yellow, especially on the nerves of the leaves. They are starting to look like variegated tomato plants: The past week, we've had too much rain. The tomatoes are under a summer raw cover fabric, but it becomes wet and allows humidity to go through. I have a chlorothalonil based fungicide, which I would be decided to use, in case of need. I'll highly appreciate your opinions. Thank you so much in advance! Carol

bettsyy, the bumps on the stems may be roots trying to form where the stem got wet, tomatoes will try to put out roots along the stem even above ground if the stem is wet enough... do you water the ground below the plant or the actual leaves? Also, if the yellow leaves are relatively spot-free, and they are the lowest leaves, they could just be dying off due to age and lack of sunlight down low on the plant... or they can be yellowing from overwatering. How is the soil you planted in and how have you been watering and have you had much rain?
